About this file

This is a Procurement and Fabrication Specification for edge-welded bellows sub-assemblies required for the PIP-II Single Spoke Resonator Type 2 (SSR2) Cryomodule project at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. The specification outlines requirements for manufacturing six different bellows assemblies with total order quantities of 14, 14, 21, 7, 7, and 1 units respectively, as detailed in Table 1. The manufacturer must provide all materials, manufacturing engineering services, labor for assembly and testing, and quality assurance. Pricing must be firm-fixed with costs for DAP shipping (HTS code 8543.90.88.45) included. The procurement timeline requires a 12-month lead time from purchase order award through fabrication, with submission of quotations, technical proposals, management control plans, and past experience documentation during the bidding phase.

The fabrication specification mandates strict compliance with ASME B&PV Section VIII Division 1 and Section IX (2021) standards for welding and welder qualifications. Critical manufacturing requirements include dimensional conformance within specified tolerances using CMM measurements, helium mass spectrometer leak detection testing per ISO 20485, permanent serial number etching on components, and a detailed cleaning procedure using ultrapure water and isopropyl alcohol. Three hold points govern execution: a Kick-off Meeting within two weeks of award, a Manufacturing Readiness Review (MRR) within eight weeks with deliverables including welding documentation and manufacturing/inspection plans, and a Shipping Readiness Review (SRR) before final shipment. Incoming inspection at Fermilab includes visual inspection, dimensional verification, magnetic permeability testing (less than 1.02), leak checking, RGA scanning, and cold shock testing. Components must be double-bagged and packaged in protective containers with tamper-evident banding for safe transportation.
