About this file

This document is a project specification for Building 8401 (PX Building) repair and modification work, identified as Project No. BMH-EXC-B0519-6P. The scope includes comprehensive door and egress modifications, fire safety system upgrades, and structural repairs to achieve NFPA 101 Life Safety Code compliance. Key work items include replacing multiple non-compliant escape doors with NFPA 101-compliant panic-bar equipped doors; installing a new gate with integrated pedestrian door at the north delivery entrance; constructing new external walkways and correcting pavement heights at multiple locations; replacing one severely deteriorated external staircase with a temporary modular system requiring structural calculations; and closing or modifying approximately 36 numbered doors and access points throughout the facility. Additional requirements include adding fire-rated drywall enclosure with door for the fire alarm system location, installing complete fire detection coverage by adding smoke detectors to all rooms, sealing wall and ceiling penetrations in stairwells and fire-rated areas, and performing partial plaster and paint repairs around new door installations. The contractor must prepare walls by removing loose plaster, relocating electrical outlets and cable ducts as needed, replacing broken ceiling tiles, and modifying door hardware (including converting Door #29 from half-cylinder to standard cylinder for emergency access). A certified designer must prepare detailed construction documents. The work is located at Building 8401 PX (retail facility in Germany) and requires compliance with German and NFPA standards for life safety and fire protection.
