About this file

This document is a Scope of Work for a Vault Expansion project by the State of Tennessee, located at 690 Airways Drive in Lexington, TN 38351 (Sourcing Event 34101-13716). The project involves two conceptual approaches for expanding and securing a vault area, with specific construction and modification requirements. Key tasks include removing existing doors and walls, installing reinforced concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls, cutting new openings, applying expanded metal security coverings, installing new LED lighting, adding a dehumidifier, and implementing electronic security systems. The project is referenced against AR 190-11, Appendix G, Paragraph G-2, suggesting military or government facility standards.

The two concepts differ primarily in wall construction approaches, with Concept 1 involving infilling existing walls and Concept 2 requiring complete removal and replacement of an 8" CMU wall. Both concepts mandate installing 3/16" expanded metal with specific grid dimensions and weight requirements to create a secured ceiling element. The expansion will increase the vault area from 200 sq ft to approximately 400 sq ft, with the new dehumidifier sized to serve approximately 6,800 cubic feet. An electrical subcontractor will provide necessary conduit, and the owner's Electronic Security Systems vendor will install sensors and alarms to secure both existing and expansion vault areas.

Concept 1 - For the existing 8” and 12” CMU walls (total of three walls) and to create a secured ceiling element, over the entire room-side surface of the walls and to the bottom of the existing steel bar joists install 3/16” expanded metal with a maximum grid opening of 1” x 3” and weighing a minimum of 4.27 pounds per square foot. The new expanded metal shall applied and fastened to the existing CMU walls and steel bar joists so that destruction of the existing and reinforcing materials is required to remove them.

6. Concept 2 – Remove existing 8” CMU wall. Install new reinforced 8” CMU to roof deck above. Reinforcing is two #4 bars every third course, doweled 4” into existing walls. For the existing and new 8” and 12” CMU walls (total of four walls) and to create a secured ceiling element, over the entire room-side surface of the walls and to the bottom of the existing steel bar joists install 3/16” expanded metal with a maximum grid opening of 1” x 3” and weighing a minimum of 4.27 pounds per square foot. The new expanded metal shall applied and fastened to the existing CMU walls and steel bar joists so that destruction of the existing and reinforcing materials is required to remove them.

7. For the existing floor, over the entire surface install Marsten, Irving or pierced steel planking. The new steel planking shall applied and fastened to the existing

CMU walls so that destruction of the existing and reinforcing materials is required to remove them.

8. Install new dehumidifier piped to existing drain. New dehumidifier is to be sized to serve both the existing vault and the expansion area (approximately 6,800 cubic feet).

9. New LED lighting fixtures in existing vault and to bottom of expanded metal in expansion area.

10. Electrical subcontractor to provide conduit as required for use by Electronic Security Systems. See Item 11 below.
