Refer to Para. E ( Sterilization of Silt Loam and Organic Humus
Components ) of Section 1.6 of Section 329113 – Soil Preparation.
This section requires that the silt loam component be sterilized using an indirect fired rotary drum kiln sterilizer. It also requires that the soil material must have a minimum temperature of 212 degrees
F. with a contact time in the sterilizer of at least 10 minutes. To meet these requirements it would require equipment not available in the mid - Atlantic region. Also, it is important to note that processing a silt loam soil in a rotary heater will tend to “ Pelletize “ the soil causing the larger pelletized particles to be screened out during the next process step in the sterilization process. Please confirm this is required.
Per Spec 329113.1.6.E - The sterilization process is a critical requirement of the soil preparation and is required. The process described is common for some topsoil manufacturers, particularly for use with golf courses. Our team is aware that the sterilization process will create silt loam pellets; this is quite beneficial when mixing with the uniformly graded sand which produces a highly uniform soil mix. There are multiple suppliers in the Mid-Atlantic area that are capable of performing this process.
What is the fabrication and delivery timeline of the tapestry panels?
Are they currently being fabricated?
The Tapestry Panels are being refined, but the final panels are not yet in production.
The specifications require "The load test pile shall be loaded at increments of approximately 10 percent of the allowable compressive load and shall be held for a minimum of 4 hours (at each load). This will take approximately 40 hrs. for each test The most common method is 10% of total load ( 250 % of 95 tons =
237.5 ton at 23.75 ton per increments every 5 min and hold total load for 1 hour for creep and unload 25 % of total load to zero and 1 hour readying. Please advise
This question is pertinent to Spec 316316.3.3.E.which references the
Geotechnical Report in Appendix 5 under section 4.1.5 Pile Load
Testing. The Pile load testing shall be in accordance with ASTM D-
1143 per this report. The proposed modification is consistent with
ASTM D1143 – Quick Load Test Method and is acceptable.
