About this file

This is a Pre-Bid Request for Information (RFI) document for RFP EQPMBA-26-0363 Ballistic Mitigation, dated September 15, 2026. The document contains two questions and GSA responses related to a construction or renovation project involving ballistic mitigation measures.

The first RFI addresses electrical infrastructure, specifically requesting clarification on the proper termination location for a J-box (electrical junction box) associated with a new PAX system. GSA's response directs contractors to terminate the J-box in the ceiling on the Bankruptcy side of the wall rather than the public side, ensuring appropriate access. The second RFI pertains to accessibility compliance, asking about the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ABAAS) minimum clearance requirements for a new door. GSA specifies that the minimum clear width must be 32 inches, measured as a net distance between the door leaf face and the opposite frame stop when the door is opened at a 90-degree angle. GSA clarifies that while the net opening must be 32 inches, a standard 36-inch wide door leaf is typically required to achieve this clearance due to space consumed by door thickness and the stop.

Number RFI GSA Response

1 Where should we terminate the electrical J-box for the new PAX system to ensure access? Terminate the J-box in the ceiling on the Bankruptcy side of the wall, not the public side.

2 What is the ABAAS minimum clearance for the new door?

The Minimum Clear Width: 32 inches minimum. This is a net measurement taken between the face of the door leaf and the opposite frame stop when the door is opened at a 90-degree angle. Because the door thickness and stop take up space, a standard 36-inch wide door leaf is typically required to achieve this 32-inch clear opening.
