Grout shall consist of 1-part hydraulic cement and 3-parts sand, thoroughly mixed with water to produce grout having a thick, creamy consistency. Application shall be thorough enough to provide water-resistant surface completely covering the riprap stone while preventing entrance to any nearby streams.
5.B PROCEDURE
The riprap shall be prepared for GROUTING by cleaning up the stone, removing any soil, and clearing debris that may have fallen in front of the slope.
Construction of the access road repair via grouting riprap is to be conducted in a safe manner using proper equipment for the work being performed. Spotters will be used to control work such that all material is prevented from rolling, slipping, or sliding down slope.
The GROUTING shall commence as soon as the Project Inspector grants permission, and the slope repair has been prepped for grout. The Contractor shall work as quickly and safely as possible to minimize the number of total hours the road is rendered closed and to minimize access interruption to persons effected.

It involves the excavation and forming of surface material to the required grade for construction of the road ditches and the area immediately surrounding and encompassing the disposal area at the Lick Branch AMD site to ensure positive flow to the appropriate hydraulic structures. The existing pipe will be re-buried in approximately the same location, rotated +50 degrees.
7.B PROCEDURE
The construction of the ditches will begin at the most upstream point within the project limits to capture flows from the existing driveways. The extents will be determined by the positive flows achieved, the tie-in to existing drainage structures, and the approval of the Project Inspector. The existing drainage structures will only require minimal armoring and/or surfacing, if any. Road surfaces will be graded on a banked slope to the ditch side for sheet flows to accumulate; water bars shall be installed as necessary.
7.C MATERIAL
7.C.i VDOT No. 57 Stone as specified in Section 203 of the VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications shall be used as access road bedding.

The pipe shall be relocated under Baltic Drive access road as a substitute for a waterbar which currently receives runoff from the building. The pipe shall be reburied within the road surface at approximately 50-degrees rotation of existing location and on a slope that coincides with the installed ditches which ensures positive drainage.
7.D MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
7.D.i Measurement: Measurement for the grading of ditches will be on a LINEAR FEET basis of complete grading, forming and compacting of the foundations of the ditches or armored with aggregate for erosion control. It shall be on a per LINEAR FEET basis for all ditches fully armored or installed and approved by the Agency. See the LINEAR FEET unit price listed in the Bid Schedule.
7.D.ii Payment: Payment for the GRADING and DITCHING will be made per LINEAR FEET basis of completed ditching approved by the Agency via Project Inspector. See the linear feet unit price listed in the Bid Schedule.
Payment for all aggregate shall be included in SECTION 6 – AGGREGATE.

8. TRENCH DRAIN INLET
8.A SCOPE
This item shall consist of all work, excavation and / or grading, and materials necessary to create a cross trench, and INSTALL a 16’-long, 18”-deep, 12”-wide precast trench vault with a slotted 14”-cast iron (or steel) trench grate cross-drain inlet under Baltic Drive at the intersection with the driveway of Marion Kegley. The drainage structure should coincide with the low point in elevation that best conveys the flow of surface runoff / storm drainage to the north side of the access road. Currently, a waterbar is constructed at the proposed location. See the typical drawings for exact measurements to ensure that the trench drain system components connect properly.
8.B PROCEDURE
The construction of the trench drain will be at the most ideal point (waterbar location) within the project limits to capture flows from the existing driveways / access roads. The skew shall be such that a minimum of 1% slope is maintained inside the drain. The extents will be determined by the positive flow achieved, the tie into existing structures, if necessary, and at the approval of the Project Inspector. Please note locations of existing drainage drop-inlets that are NOT to be disturbed during this construction.
Note: The trench area opening through Baltic Drive shall not be initiated or left open without the documented permission of the Project Inspector. The installation shall be with the consideration of the residents who reside beyond the impacted construction area via the single ingress / egress route of Baltic Drive.
8.C MATERIAL
8.C.i The TRENCH DRAIN INLET shall be a 16’ long, pre-cast concrete base box with a heavy-duty metal grate inlet.
The metal grate lid shall be similar to the EJ 6900Z1 series with 14”- wide type A-slots at least 1” thick, rated H-20, or equivalent. The concrete frame box shall be placed per manufacturer’s instructions on a prepared uniform support of compacted VDOT Crusher Run stone as specified in Section 205 of the VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications.
Any joints shall be additionally supported by leveling blocks. Compaction shall be via hand-operated roller or rammer tamper-jumping jack; no HD roller (sheepsfoot-type) shall be allowed to proceed over the precast box.
The protection of the trench drain inlet structure requires the installation of it to be the last item installed after all aggregate delivery is completed.
Note: Typically, a 5-week minimum notice is required to be given to a precast box manufacturer for sufficient time of concrete curing to be accomplished; order and plan accordingly.
8.C.ii Grout: The depth of the drain will be placed to accommodate both the road surface and the pipe’s discharge; the outlet end shall be strategically placed to ensure flush discharge. The slope from the discharge of the trench drain to the toe of the road embankment shall be grouted.
8.D MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
8.D.i Measurement: Measurement for the trench drain inlet installation will be on a LINEAR FEET basis of complete grading, forming and units installed. See the LINEAR FEET unit price listed in the Bid Schedule.
8.D.ii Payment: Payment for the TRENCH DRAIN INLET will be made per LINEAR FEET basis of completed ditching approved by the Agency via Project Inspector. See the LINEAR FEET unit price listed in the Bid Schedule.
Payment for all grouting shall be included in SECTION 5 – SURFACE GROUTING. Payment for VDOT Crusher Run stone shall be included in SECTION 6 – Aggregate.
