About this file
The document is a licensing requirements guide for electricians issued by the City of Urbana, Illinois, detailing three distinct electrician license categories: Unrestricted Master Electrician, Restricted Residential Electrician, and Restricted Maintenance Electrician. Each license category requires applicants to have 2-4 years (4000-8000 hours) of documented experience in electrical wiring systems and equipment installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance, and mandates passing the corresponding National Standard Electrician Exam through the International Code Council (ICC).
The licensing process involves completing the ICC exam, submitting a "Pass" certificate, a City of Urbana registration form, and paying a $175 registration fee to receive an original Certificate of Registration. Each license type has specific restrictions: the Unrestricted Master Electrician has no limitations, the Restricted Residential Electrician is limited to residential dwellings and related installations, and the Restricted Maintenance Electrician is confined to the facility of employment with specific circuit and installation constraints. Reference materials for all categories include the 2020 National Electrical Code (NEC), with additional references like the Dewalt Electrical Exam Guide, Ugly's Electrical Reference, and Mike Holt's Electrical Exam Prep. The registration may be eligible for transfer to several reciprocating jurisdictions.
