2. Coordinate with the CO prior to the start of construction to determine the final top of deck elevation of the dock in each area. Submit for approval details for tying into the existing boardwalk at the south end of the dock prior to construction. Stake the dock centerline and the limits of construction, including staging areas.
3. Coordinate with all utilities that have facilities within the project area prior to the start of construction. Contact "Dig Safely" at 811 at least three full working days prior to any excavation or pile installation to determine the presence and/or location of any underground utilities.
4. Prepare, submit for approval, and properly implement a soil erosion plan in accordance with the requirements of Section 157 - Soil Erosion Control.
5. Install lighting and electrical components in accordance with the National

GENERAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
1. The dimensions and elevations shown on these plans have been obtained from limited field investigations. Field measure all existing components impacted by the new work to ensure consistency with the proposed modifications. Bring any discrepancies in dimensions, character or extent of the existing components to the attention of the CO before advancing the work.
2. Develop the full capacity of the structural members in all connections in accordance with the latest edition of the National Design Specification for Wood
Construction and Supplement (NDS). Design and detail all connections and framing not otherwise detailed on the plans. Submit details of any required connections and framing not otherwise detailed on the plans to the CO for review and approval prior to beginning any work.

Questions/Clarifications
Questions / Clarifications
The following questions and issues were submitted to EFLHD. The Government response or clarification is provided. Due to the repetitive nature of several questions and issues, the wording of the questions may have been revised and some questions have not been included.
The Government’s direct response to the sender may also have been updated below for better clarity.
1. The plans call for ACQ 0.6 lb/ft3. It is our belief this is not sufficient for salt water immersion and would be subject to degradation by marine borers. Please advise as to how to proceed.
Response: All timber piles are to be treated with 2.50 lbs/ft3 of Chromated Copper Arsenate. Plan sheets 2, 7, and 10 have been revised.
2. The drawings do not show a connection detail for the 2”x10” blocking that is to be provided at all rail posts. This is similar to the pile caps (3”x12” cross ties) but there is nothing to connect it to. How should the contractor assume connection? Drawing – Sheet 9 – Section Partial Framing Plan.
Response: See General Construction Note 2 on plan sheet 2 and Materials/Fasteners Notes on plan sheet 9. The blocking is noted to be detailed by the Contractor as part of their submittals.
3. What is the deck elevation? Are we to assume the elevation is +5, which is shown on Drawing – Sheet 6 – Section East Elevation? Without a deck elevation level, pile lengths will not be able to be determined.
Response: The required total pile lengths for bid are provided in the Tabulation of Quantities. The proposed deck will match the deck elevation of the existing boardwalk.
4. Drawing – Sheet 10 – Section Typical Section, Detail A and Rail Post Connection Detail – show a 2x2 composite balusters to be installed on the rail post.
Response: The dashed line is used to indicate general location of the baluster in cross section. As shown on the Elevation views on sheet 9, there is no baluster directly mounted to the post.
a. Typical Section calls for a 4x6 post and Detail A calls for a 6x6 post. Which post is to be used?
The Typical Section is correct. The call out in the detail A on plan sheet 10 was revised to match a 4x6 post.
b. Is the post to be cut and allow the 2x2 baluster fit into the post or is the baluster to be attached flush to the post?
See the response provided in 4a above.
