Project No.: OR BLM MED 2015 (1)
Project: Quartz Creek Culvert Replacement
# General Technical Question Answer Date
1 X
Sheet No J.2 and J.3 shows the bottom of the foundation in a stepped configuration.
Is this a required design element or just a typical detail?
Typical Detail for this project and will be field adjusted to fit the conditions.
2 X
Sheet No J.4 in the Foundation Design Notes state “Prepare a foundation design report for approval by the CO. As a minimum, the foundation report will include a description of the existing conditions, recommendations for the proposed foundation type and details, erosion protection and dewatering recommendations.”
This is typically the work of a geotechnical engineer produced prior to the design of the foundations by a structural engineer. Is it the intent of this contract to have a qualified engineer undergo a subsurface investigation prior to the commencement of design of the foundation?
Yes
3 X
Sheet No. J.4 Arch Base Channel Detail
Is the utilization of a base channel required or can an alternate connection detail be utilized?
Bid as shown and the successful bidder may discuss changes to the connection detail after award.
4 X
Sheet J4 General Notes refers to “Factored Bearing Resistance: 1 Ton/Sq Ft”.
The Foundation Design Notes indicate that bedrock will be encountered and give direction on anchorage to the bedrock.
Can the designer use a higher bearing resistance if the design is to anchor the bottom of the footing to the bedrock?
Yes.
5 Where do we find the drawings for all concrete on the pipe?
See Section 602 in the SCRs and the J plan sheets
6 x Is there a Geo Report at each culvert location? no
7 x If there is a Geo report can we get a copy of the report? no
8 x Does all rock material need to come from a weed free certified quarry?
yes
9 x Can a Hydration controlling admixture be used in the concrete?
yes
10 x

If no designated stockpile site, can we use existing roads and cleared areas for stockpiling excavated materials? See Section 105 in the solicitation x
Is there any material available at the quarry site shown on cover sheet A.1, that can be used on the project. See Section 105 in the solicitation x
Is there a waste area available for unsuitable or excess excavated material at either project site? See Section 204 in FP‐03
14 x
At QCC site will the footings be required to set into Bed Rock or on top of Bed
Rock? See J.4 plan sheet
15 x Is there a designated borrow area for Bid item 20403‐0000?
See Section 105 in the solicitation
