Section 723. — GEOCELL CELLULAR MAT SYSTEM

(ADDED SECTION)

723.01. Geocell Cellular Mat System. Furnish a geocell cellular mat at each ramp access to the board road and a geocell cellular mat system for ATV trail with corrosion resistant connectors capable of providing support to all-terrain vehicles over the ramp access and over very soft and uneven ground. The Geoterra® structural Mat system and a stainless steel PadLoc Connection Device manufactured by Presto Geosystems, P.O. Box 2399, Appleton, Wisconsin 54912-2399 (800-548-3424), www.prestogeo.com, are acceptable products.

Identification by brand name is intended to be descriptive, not restrictive, and is intended to indicate the qualities and characteristics of products that will be satisfactory.

The following lists salient characteristics that must be met by other products to be acceptable:

(a) Mat Units. Furnish open cell blocks composed of long chain synthetic polymers with at least 85 percent by mass of polypropylene that conform to the following:

(1) Carbon Black for Ultraviolet Light Stabilization: 1.5 to 2.0 percent by weight.

(2) Minimum Crush Strength at 21 degrees C (70° F): 2,900 kPa (420 psi).

(3) Flexural Modulus at 23 degrees C (73° F): 240,000 kPa (35,000 psi).

(4) Nominal Depth: 50 mm (2.0 inches).

(5) Nominal Coverage Area: 0.46 m2 (4.95 square feet).

(6) Top Open Area per Unit: 87 percent.

(7) Bottom Open Area per Unit: 41 percent.

(b) Geocell cellular block mat system connection. Connect individual geocell cellular blocks to each other with zinc clear trivalent chromate plate, .0003 minimum thickness connection clips that clamp the blocks together cell to cell. Space the connectors a minimum 0.25m (9 inches) from each other. Do not provide self tapping or wood screws, or plastic connectors.

(c) Turning and expansion joint tie system. Furnish a stainless steel wire tie system or a stainless steel nut and bolt system that ties the cellular mats together as shown on the Typical Section Details” sheet in the “Turning Radius Connector Detail” and in the “Expansion Joint Detail.” Design each tie and geocell block connections to resist a minimum 200 lbs pull out force from the geocell blocks.

(d) Anchoring system. Furnish an anchoring system that ties the cellular mat system to the ground according to the followings or manufacturer’s recommendations for the existing ground conditions and as approved by the CO:
