QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
CA FTNP REDW PRES 1(14)
March 9, 2015
Question 1: Please provide existing beam size or weight per foot for demo purposes. Thank you
Answer 1: Please refer to the as-built drawings posted on www.fbo.gov
March 19, 2015
Question 2: On bridge drawing 8 of 14, the detail shows half the girder length is 36’-5” long, indicating the total length to be 72’-10” long. On sheet 10 of 14, the girder length is shown as 73-10” long. Please clarify.
Answer 2: Bridge drawing 8 of 14 (S8) shows the girder length of 72’-10” which is different from slab length (deck length) 73’-10” shown on bridge drawing 10 of 14 (S10). The difference is shown on bridge drawing 5 of 14 (S5) where we show (section A-A) the girder is embedded partially into the end diaphragm. Girder length is not the deck length.
Question 3: On sheet 6 of 14, View A-A, they show a total of 24 strands. On sheet 7 of 14, in the quantities list, they show 2357 lf of strand, which would indicate 32 strands. Please clarify.
Answer 3: The number of strands (24 strands) shown on bridge drawing 6 of 14 (S6) is correct. Bridge drawing 7 of 14 (S7) has been amended (Amendment A001) to show a revised strand length of 1,774 linear feet.

Question 4: On the plans it states construction to begin Nov. 1st to be complete Feb on Fed Biz it states work to begin in May? Which one is correct
Answer 4: We anticipate issuing the Notice to Proceed in June 2015. This early NTP will allow the contractor to prepare and submit all required submittals including shop drawings for the precast girders and, if they so choose, to precast/cure the girders to have them ready when on-site work can commence. No on-site work can begin before October 26, 2015 as stated in subsection 108.01 of the Special Contract Requirements. The road can be closed after November 1, 2015.
Question 5: I also am a DBE small business in need of bonding/funding for this project with no response from the info listed in the documents. Can you help with this issue I would like to bid as a General

Answer 6: No
Question 7: Can the overhead power lines above the bridge be temp. removed for placement and removal of girders?
Answer 7: No
Question 8: What is the high water mark during our construction window?
Answer 8: The high water mark hasn’t been determined.
Question 9: Has the roadway been flooded in the past and if so, how often? Depth over the road?
Answer 9: We are not aware of any occasions when the roadway has been flooded or overtopped.
Question 10: Will there be any people staying at the training center during our closure?
Answer 10: We do not anticipate that anyone will be staying in the residences, fire station, or education center.
Question 11: If residents at the training center, will they need access across creek during the bridge outage?
Answer 11: We do not anticipate that anyone will be staying in the residences, fire station, or education center.
Question 12: Pole poles shown on drawing center on the bridge curb, but lines are approximately 5 ft either side of the poles. OSHA requires 10 foot separation from equipment and power lines, therefore, Bridge Girders cannot be placed with any equipment nor unloaded on either side with power lines in place. Will the power lines be disconnect or removed during our work?
Answer 12: The power lines will not be disconnected or removed during construction. The area to maneuver a crane is limited; therefore non-conventional construction methods might be necessary.

Question 16: To construct this bridge with conventional means by utilizing a crane, we will be in direct conflict with the existing PGE overhead line. This situation creates an unsafe condition and does not allow the contractor to construct with conventional means. We have contacted PGE and they have confirmed that they will not de energize the lines nor relocate the lines for the contractor. Will the project owner arrange for relocation/de energization/ temporary removal of these lines in conflict?
Answer 16: The power lines will not be de-energized, disconnected, or removed during construction. The area to maneuver a crane is limited; therefore non-conventional construction methods might be necessary.
