Questions and Answers
8/11/14
1. Can you please describe the scope of work for the river relocation from station 1118+00 thru station 1137+00?
There is no information on the plans for excavation or quantities in the bid schedule for the river relocation work.
The constructability of this section will be very difficult in this configuration, as there is insufficient room to maintain the existing roadway for the traveling public simultaneously with the river diversion effort and construction of the new roadway alignment. Is the new channel excavation quantity for the river relocation considered incidental to the work descried in the bid schedule?
Answer: The river restoration work is currently not designed. The river restoration work is expected to be executed through SATOC Task Orders.
2. From a constructability perspective, the presplit for the drill & shoot excavation will need to be accomplished at a maximum of 30 ft. vertical benches as the cut is brought down. This is to ensure the best face for construction and the toe of the slope meets the plan coordinates. Because of this limitation, the higher cuts will need to start further back than what the plans call for. There may be a need for additional right of way to accommodate the aforementioned constructability requirements, will the right of way be available?
Answer: Right-of-way, within the Forest Service properties (Schedule A), allow for the proposed construction.
Future right-of-way acquisitions will leverage the CM Services to ensure constructability concerns are addressed.
