QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

DTFH68-13-R-00010

SOUTH FORK SMITH RIVER

1. Can the Temporary bridge be HS20 Loading?

Answer: The RFP does not specify the design criteria for the temporary bridge, but

HS20 is acceptable.

2. Clarification – Minimum 12-foot travel lane with barriers, for a minimum out to out width of 16ft.

a. Please clarify what you mean by out –to-out width.

Answer: The key dimension is a 12-foot travel lane. The out-to-out width was an assumption that can vary depending on the bridge type and use. There must be sufficient room between the two bridges to construct the permanent bridge.

3. Do you have an idea of how long (duration) the temp bridge will be install.

Answer: The duration of use depends on the contractor’s schedule for construction of the permanent structure. Since the new permanent bridge is on the same alignment as the existing bridge, it is anticipated that the temporary bridge is constructed first, then traffic is switched on the temp bridge while the existing bridge is removed and maintained on the temp bridge until the new bridge is open to traffic. However, the contractor may have another sequence in mind.

4. Referring to bid item 55201-TEMP (Temporary Bridge and Foundation and Removal):

A. Is the required traffic load design HS-20 or HL-93? HS-20 Acceptable B. Since the lane is only 12’-0 wide, is an alternating direction timed stop light required? Yes

5. Referring to bid item 55302-3300 (Pre-cast, pre-stressed concrete AASHTO girder), can the Type I AASHTO girder be replaced with a Caltrans approved equal? Yes

6. Please provide the Liquidated Damages for this contract. Page C-7 refers to ”See FP-03” and we cannot find this document to provide this information to the surety.
