About this file

This is a Salient Characteristics document outlining categories of drone parts and components sought for the procurement and assembly of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). The document provides broad descriptions and examples of parts across five primary categories to communicate requirements to industry partners.

The five categories of parts are: (1) Internals—flight-enabling and data transmission components including flight controllers, GPS units, video transmission radios, radio transmitters, and electronic speed controllers (ESCs), with examples such as VOXL 2 Mini, Cube Blue H7, Skynode S, and ARKV6X; (2) Power—propulsion system components including motors, batteries, and propellers, with examples such as T-Motor ALPHA 60A 6S and BrotherHobby 2816-620; (3) Payload—mission-specific equipment not essential to flight including cameras, sensors, energetics, delivery mechanisms, single board computers, and scientific instruments, with examples such as Teledyne FLIR Duo R, Sentera 6X Multispectral, Jetson Orin NX, and Raspberry Pi 5; (4) Ground Control—aircraft control equipment including controllers, FPV goggles, and ground control stations, with examples such as MIRA 12X, Tomahawk Robotics Grip S20, and Freefly Systems Pilot Pro; and (5) Assembly—fasteners, adhesives, tools, and consumables including bolts, nuts, screws, filament, heat shrink, zip ties, and solder. The document specifies that all generic and name-brand variants within each category are acceptable.

Salient Characteristics for the Drone Parts

This document outlines the categories of parts sought for the procurement and assembly of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). We are providing broad descriptions of our needs to communicate our requirements to industry partners. Below are the primary categories of components to include examples of parts within each.

Categories of Parts

1. Internals

Description: Any and all parts or products used within the aircraft to enable flight and transmit data, including but not limited to, flight controllers, GPS units, video transmission radios, radio transmitters, and electronic speed controllers (ESCs), inclusive of all generic and name-brand variants.

Examples (including but not limited to):

• VOXL 2 Mini (MDK-M0104-1-00)

• Cube Blue H7 (HX4-06154)

• Skynode S

• ARKV6X

• Somewear Node (SWL-2)

• VOXL/VOXL 2 Microhard Modem Add-on

2. Power

Description: Any and all parts or products that constitute the aircraft's propulsion system, including but not limited to, motors, batteries, and propellers, inclusive of all generic and name-brand variants.

• T-Motor ALPHA 60A 6S

• BrotherHobby 2816-620

• Drone Motors

• Batteries (various)

• Propellers (various sizes, e.g., 3")

3. Payload

Description: Any and all equipment or mission-specific systems carried by the aircraft but not essential to flight. This includes, but is not limited to, cameras, sensors, energetics, delivery mechanisms, single board computers, and scientific instruments, inclusive of all generic and name-brand variants.

• Teledyne FLIR Duo R

• Sentera 6X Multispectral

• Sony Alpha 7R IVA

• Jetson Orin NX

• Raspberry Pi 5

• HD40-XV Gimbal

4. Ground Control

Description: Any and all parts or products used to control the aircraft from the ground, including but not limited to, controllers, first-person view (FPV) goggles, and ground control stations, inclusive of all generic and name-brand variants.

• MIRA 12X

• Tomahawk Robotics Grip S20

• Freefly Systems Pilot Pro

• Samsung S23 Tactical Edition

• Panasonic TOUGHBOOK G2

5. Assembly

Description: Any and all parts used in the assembly of the aircraft, including but not limited to, bolts, nuts, fasteners, glue, epoxy, heat shrink, tape, zip-ties, flux, solder, and any generic or name-brand versions of such products.

• Screws (M2, M3), nuts, and washers

• Filament (ASA, PLA, ABS)
