About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for a state and local contract opportunity (DQ1 2016_0778) involving the procurement of two custom trailers: one bumper pull trailer with a 10,000 GVWR and one gooseneck trailer with a 12,000 GVWR. The 28-foot gooseneck trailer features 20 feet of cargo area with an 8-foot riser section, while the bumper pull trailer is 20 feet in length. Both trailers are to be equipped with identical specifications including 3/8" plywood walls, 3/4" plywood flooring, matching ceiling materials, dual ramp doors, overhead cabinets running along the same sidewall (minimum 3 feet in length), and vinyl flooring in applicable areas. The bid award date was December 23, 2015, with a delivery deadline of February 15, 2016, though an additional two weeks would be acceptable if required at the time of award. Standard manufacturing lead time is 8 to 10 weeks after receipt of order, with gooseneck trailers typically requiring extended timelines.
The document clarifies specifications regarding wheel and axle configurations, GVWR requirements, cabinet dimensions and placement, ceiling material options, and flooring specifications in response to vendor inquiries. Pricing should include options both with and without delivery, with pickup potentially available at the vendor's location if approximately 300 miles from the Littleton Office Center. The riser or attic area of the gooseneck trailer does not require finishing. All specifications outlined in the Q&A are binding clarifications to the original bid specifications and represent the final requirements for both trailer units.

DQ1 2016*0778 Q&A
Questions & Answers:
1. The 20' Bumper pull trailer requests 16" Tires with 8 Lug Wheels while requesting a 10,000#
GVWR. The industry STANDARD on a 5000# Axle is a 15" 6 Lug Wheel with a 15" Tire
(ST22575R15) Load Range D rated. I can check with the vendor to see if they can special order an axle (5000# rated) with the 6000# rated Tires & Wheels on them. I doubt that this option is available, however I will ask. If it is available, ordering a special order axle ADDS to the normal
"lead" time which is 8 to 10 Weeks After Receipt of Order (ARO).
15” 6 lug wheels are acceptable to keep a standard axle with required 10,000 # GVWR on bumper pull trailer (DQ1 16*0776) only.
2. On the 20' bumper pull it is requiring 8 lug wheels on 5200 # axles. I don't believe there is such an animal. They will have to be 6 lug - will this work for you?
15” 6 lug wheels are acceptable to keep a standard axle with required 10,000 # GVWR on bumper pull trailer (DQ1 16*0776) only.
3. Can the GVWR be bumped up to 14,000lb?
The gooseneck trailer specification is for 12,000 # GVWR but a higher GVWR would be acceptable as well.
4. Under the description "Finished Ceiling" your specs state 3/8 Plywood walls and 3/4 Plywood
Floor but no mention regarding a finished ceiling. Am I to assume there is NO FINISHED ceiling in these bids? If you do want a finished ceiling do you want it white vinyl or Luaun paneling?
Ceilings of both trailers would be of same materials as walls, acceptable materials are in bid specifications.
5. Under "Cabinets" the specs state (2) 18" x 18”. That is a dimension of an Over Head cabinet which usually runs across the front (nose) of the trailer, making it 8 Foot Wide. The spec calls for two of them. Would you want them mounted with one on top of the other? Or would you run them along the side walls (especially the Gooseneck) Please advise.
Each cabinet should run along the same sidewall.
6. Do you want the cabinets overhead in the front of the trailer?
Each cabinet should run along the same sidewall.
7. Your bids request delivery on or before 02/15/2016. The normal lead time to order a custom built trailer is 8 to 10 weeks ARO, with your bid award date of 12/23/15 that barely gives enough time to meet your DUE date. I have checked in advance with our manufacturer about hitting your due dates and he said that they probably could (FYI the Gooseneck trailers usually take longer to build). What happens if "production" runs a week or two behind? Please advise.
Two additional weeks would be acceptable if required at time of award.
8. It looks like these trailers are identical with the exception of one being a Goose Neck with a
12K GVWR and the other being a "Bumper Pull" with a 10K GVWR. Are you planning on purchasing two trailers or deciding on which ONE to buy based on cost? The "Lead" times will most likely be different if ordering two (different) types of trailers. Please advise.
Two trailers will be purchased: 1 bumper pull and 1 gooseneck.
9. The Spec calls for 5/16" Ball on the Bumper Pull trailer (DQ1 16*0776) which is probably a typo and should read as a 2- 5/16" Ball. Just checking.
Yes- 2-5/6” ball is correct.
10. Do you want rear ramp doors on the back or double rear doors?
Both trailers would require ramp doors.
11. In regards to the delivery requirement, by any chance, can the equipment be picked up on-site?
This would depend upon the location and the price of delivery. The price with and without delivery would be needed for evaluation against other bids and the vendor’s place of business (pick-up location) must be approximately 300 miles from the Littleton Office Center.
12. Ceiling of trailer needs to have the same materials as walls (3/8" Plywood) (which is not an available option)? Normally ceilings are lined with Lauan (wood) paneling or White Vinyl (on top of) Lauan paneling for ceiling liners.
Ceiling and walls should match (same material). Walls need to be 3/8” thickness, but ceiling should be appropriately sized in thickness. As long as the material is somewhat durable, it will be acceptable.
13. Both Cabinets are to run along the same sidewall. I still need the OVERALL LENGTH of the Over
Head Cabinets. Currently I have these dimensions as ONE 36" wide x 18" Tall x 18" Deep cabinet in the bid. Please verify if these dimensions are acceptable.
Cabinets should be a minimum of 3’ long. These dimensions are acceptable.
14. The 28 foot Goose neck trailer (DQ1 16*0778) has 20 feet of cargo area (box) with an 8 foot
"Riser" (attic) area. I will only bid the "floor of the 20' cargo area" with the Vinyl Flooring and
WILL NOT bid the 8 Feet of "Riser/Attic" area with the Vinyl flooring. Did you want to have the attic area with Vinyl flooring (even though no one can actually stand up in the riser area)?
The riser area does not have to be finished.
