About this file

This document is an Industry Day presentation for the National Park Service (NPS) Fort Caroline Memorial Relocation project, scheduled for bid solicitation in Summer 2027. The project aims to relocate the Fort Caroline Memorial exhibit approximately 300 feet southeast to a higher elevation outside the floodplain, reducing chronic storm and tidal damage while improving visitor and employee safety.

The project scope includes demolishing the existing fort exhibit, filling in the moat, regrading the area, and reinstalling irrigation and seeding. Construction of the new exhibit will incorporate rammed earth-style/formed concrete walls with striated appearance, Corten steel railings and beams, composite decking for overlooks, and either a salvaged or reconstructed archway. New accessible stabilized compacted paths will be installed throughout, with ABA compliance requirements noted. The site plan identifies specific trees for removal (nine live oaks by diameter breast height), selective underbrush clearing, and reestablishment of native scrub vegetation. Staging and working areas include the Maintenance Yard, areas adjacent to the existing exhibit for demolition, Timucuan Village, and potentially part of the Visitor Center Parking Lot, with the requirement that public access remain open with minimal trail closures throughout construction.
