About this file
This is a vendor outreach document issued by the City of Long Beach describing its procurement processes and procedures for becoming a vendor. The City of Long Beach purchases hundreds of millions of dollars in goods and services annually, encompassing diverse categories ranging from vehicle parts and construction contracts to professional services. For purchases under $40,000, the City solicits direct quotes from businesses and awards contracts to the lowest qualified bidder. For purchases exceeding $40,000, the City posts solicitations through Long Beach Buys, a centralized online platform where vendors can view opportunities and submit competitive proposals. Prospective vendors can become participants by creating a free Long Beach Buys account at longbeach.gov/purchasing, searching the database for invitations to bid and requests for proposals, and submitting responses for opportunities matching their qualifications and interests. The City hosts monthly webinars on the third Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. to educate potential vendors about the procurement process, with registration available through lbcity.info/vendorwebinar.
The City of Long Beach welcomes participation from small, local, and diverse firms and offers a 5–10 percent preference to local businesses in both quote and solicitation processes. Interested vendors can contact Purchasing Customer Service at LBPurchasing@longbeach.gov or 562.570.6200 for questions or support establishing vendor profiles on the Long Beach Buys platform.
