About this file
This is a Data Item Description (DID) document that specifies requirements for Conceptual Design Drawings/Models in military contracts.
The DID (Number DI-SESS-81001E, approved February 26, 2013) defines the format and content requirements for conceptual design drawings and models used to reduce technical uncertainty and validate engineering design feasibility during the concept demonstration/validation phase of Department of Defense materiel acquisition. The document applies to acquisitions of military systems, equipment, and components and is intended for tailoring to minimum data requirements of specific contracts. Conceptual design drawings/models must document engineering design concepts in detail and indicate whether technologies are feasible or design concepts have potential to meet stated requirements. The drawings must comply with MIL-STD-31000 standards. The format—whether contractor or Government format—is specified on the TDP Option Selection Worksheet incorporated into the contract or purchase order. The types of drawings vary according to design complexity, with the Option Selection Worksheet designating responsibility for drawing type selection between contractor and Government. Associated lists are optional but may be used to meet information content requirements. Drawings must be identified with either the contractor's CAGE code and contractor document numbers or Government CAGE code and Government document numbers, as specified in the Option Selection Worksheet. This DID is related to DI-SESS-81000E, DI-SESS-81002F, and DI-SESS-81003E, and supersedes the previous version DI-SESS-81001D.
