About this file

This document details the Deceased Animal Pick-up Procedures for Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS), specifically for large animals, with procedures for handling and transporting deceased animals to Family Animal Services (FAS) located at 17819 NE Riverside Pkwy in Portland, Oregon. The procedure outlines a comprehensive workflow beginning with resident service requests through MCAS, which then forwards information to a service provider responsible for collecting and transporting animal remains to the cremation agency.

The procedural document provides specific step-by-step instructions for service providers, including requirements for bagging remains using gloves, using a stretcher if necessary, obtaining access codes for facility entry, weighing remains on a floor scale, and proper storage in a walk-in cooler. Key operational details include handling protocols for remains that cannot be bagged on-site, methods for weight measurement (including estimation for large animals), and specific guidelines for using a hydraulic lift and securing facility doors after completing the task. The procedures appear designed to ensure hygienic, professional, and systematic handling of deceased large animals within Multnomah County.
