About this file

The document is a product specification sheet from The Garland Company, a roofing and construction materials manufacturer with locations in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The document details two metal roofing products: R-Mer SS Flat Stock and R-Mer Seal. R-Mer SS Flat Stock is a high-gloss, factory-painted steel or aluminum sheet designed for wall, fascia, or roofing applications, available in various gauges and finishes. It offers a 30-year guarantee against peeling, cracking, chipping, or blistering, and comes in multiple color options with different paint systems including silicone modified polyester and fluorocarbon coatings.

R-Mer Seal is a self-adhering, high-temperature metal roofing underlayment composed of a cross-laminated polymer film laminated to a rubberized asphalt adhesive. The product is engineered for use as a secondary waterproofing underlayment in metal roof systems, with applications in valleys, ridges, penetrations, and eaves. It features aggressive adhesion, flexibility, self-healing capabilities, and can withstand temperatures up to 250°F. The underlayment is 45 mils thick, white in color, provides 200 square feet of coverage per roll, and is packaged with 30 rolls per pallet. Installation is recommended at temperatures between 50-100°F, with specific overlap and application guidelines provided in the documentation.

R-Mer® Seal

OVERVIEW & FEATURES

R-Mer Seal is a self-adhering high-temperature metal roofing underlay-ment. It is composed of a durable, non-slip, cross-laminated polymer film laminated to a high-temperature rubberized asphalt adhesive. A split release film protects the adhesive on the back side of the membrane and prevents the roll from sticking to itself during storage and handling.

R-Mer Seal is engineered for use as a continuous secondary waterproofing underlayment under Garland’s metal roof systems.

R-Mer Seal can also be used in valleys, ridges, penetrations and at eaves for protection against ice dams and wind driven rain. It can also serve as an underlayment for asphalt shingles, coping caps, and edge metal applications.

Aggressive Adhesion – R-Mer Seal is formulated with high temperature rubberized asphalt for rel iable protection. R-Mer Seal exhibits superior adhesion to the roof deck and strong lap strength, ensuring long-term watertight protection. Quality-controlled manufacturing ensures uniform film thickness throughout each roll.

Flexible & Self-Healing – The rubberized adhesive compound yields a flexible membrane with excellent elongation capabilities and tensile strength to accommodate the expansion and contraction of the substrate. The rubberized adhesive layer also exhibits self-healing capabilities and accommodates the use of fasteners, staples, nails, and screws while maintaining a watertight seal.

Easy Insta l la t ion – The pee l and s t i ck app l i ca t ion and overlap guidelines make installation fast and easy. R-Mer Seal’s cross-laminated polymer film provides an excellent slip-resistant surface for installers.

High-Temperature Rating – R-Mer Seal is able to withstand the elevated temperatures of a rooftop environment without degrading or losing its waterproofing capabilities.

APPLICATION

R-Mer Sea l adheres to meta l , p l ywood, OSB, r ig id v iny l , po ly isocyanurate insu lat ion and masonry substrates. R-Mer Seal is intended for use on roof decks with slopes of 2:12 and higher.

A l l sur faces must be in sound condi t ion and f ree o f d i r t , debris, or dust. Prime all substrates to be waterproofed with SA Primer™ at a rate of 0.5 gal./100 sq. ft. (0.21 l/m2). Primer is not required when adhering to polyisocyanurate insulation.

Apply the membrane in lengths up to 18 feet. Overlap all seams a minimum 3” on the side laps and 6” on the head laps. Roll the seams and overlaps of the membrane with a hand roller to ensure complete adhesion with no voids, wrinkles, or fishmouths. The membrane should not be folded over the roof edge unless covered by a gutter, mechanically fastened every 6” or protected with other flashing materials.
