About this file
This document is a technical specification section for carpeting (Section 09 68 00) detailing carpet product requirements and installation guidelines. The specification calls for 24x24 inch modular carpet tiles from manufacturers J+J or Lees, with specific technical requirements including tufted construction, solution-dyed commercial nylon fiber, and a textured pattern loop surface. Key technical specifications include a surface pile weight of 20-28 oz/yd², 1/12 inch gauge, 0.25-0.5 inch pile thickness, and meeting stain resistance, flammability, and smoke density standards.
Installation requirements include using manufacturer-approved installers, conducting installation at temperatures between 60-90 degrees F, and following specific layout guidelines such as quarter-turn installation pattern and symmetrical tile placement. Additional requirements include providing walk-off mats at entrances, using full-spread adhesive, and ensuring indoor air quality certification through programs like UL 2818 GreenGuard Gold. The specification also mandates thorough preparation of the concrete substrate, cleaning post-installation, and protecting the installed carpet from damage for at least 48 hours after installation.
