The procedures outline the process for a Veteran to walk in to a CBOC with a mental health concern. If the Veteran's provider is available, the Medical Support Assistant (MSA) will contact them. The attachment includes a list of the BHIP Care Coordinators and PCMHI providers assigned to specific CBOC locations. CBOC coverage for Veteran walk in/ Same Day Access June 26, 2024
Reference: SOP 528a7 116-30 Behavioral Health Access (MY VA Access)
1. Upon the Veteran’s arrival to the CBOC, the MSA inquires whether the Veteran is currently linked to a provider and requests the name of the provider. If the idenfied provider is present at the staon, the MSA will teams message the provider to ascertain if they are able to meet with the Veteran.
a. Ulizing the "walk-in form with assessments" atached is highly recommended. This form should be issued to the Veteran at the front desk upon check-in. Once the Veteran finishes, they can return the form to the front desk, and the provider will collect it from the MS’s when fetching the Veteran from the waing room.
2. In case the provider is unavailable or off duty, and the clinic has a BHIP Care Coordinator, the MSA will reach out to the BHIP Care Coordinator through a teams message to assist the Veteran walk in.
3. In CBOC’s where there is no BHIP Care Coordinators, PCMHI can be contacted to assist with an inial screen of the Veteran. The principal means to contact members of the PCMHI team is through their teams chat:
a. PCMHI providers will temporarily offer mental health walk-in services and urgent MH phone assistance at the CBOCs unl BHIP Care Coordinators are hired. Once the BHIC CC are present, they will become the main point of contact for Veterans seeking same-day access to mental health care at the CBOCs, unless the Veteran is already connected with primary care, in which case PCMHI will provide same day access.
