Disruptive Behavior Committee (DBC)

Disruptive Behavior Committee (DBC)

(Formerly the Coordinated Care Review Board)

The DBC operates under the direction of the Office of the Chief of Staff. The purpose of the DBC is to provide consultation to all staff in the NMVAHCS in the provision of coordinated care for difficult patients and visitors. Difficult patients are those whose disruptive or threatening behavior, aberrant use of medications, splitting of staff, serious non-adherence to treatment plans, or over or inappropriate use of health care resources interferes with the provision of consistent, safe, effective and compassionate care. The DBC is a consultative service that works with providers and patients to develop treatment agreements that deliver coordinated care. It is the responsibility of the treating provider to implement the agreements with the advice and monitoring of the DBC. The DBC can be consulted through the use of the Disruptive

Behavior Reporting System (DBRS), found on the NMVAHCS home page.

The Disruptive Behavior Reporting System (DBRS) is an online system which allows providers and staff to report disruptive or threatening patient or visitor behavior. Access the DBRS on the main homepage. Reporting in DBRS takes between 2 & 5 minutes to complete. The DBC requests the name and contact information of the reporter in order to follow-up if there are additional questions during the review and consultative process.

The reporter’s information will not be provided to the individual identified in the report.
