About this file
This document outlines acquisition requirements for HY-80, Type II low alloy steel plate for critical naval applications. The material specification references "Base Materials for Critical Applications: Requirements for low alloy steel plate, forgings, castings, shapes, bars, and heads of HY-80/100/130 and HSLA-80/100, Rev. 2, DTD 18DEC2012" as the governing standard. First Article Testing is mandatory in accordance with paragraphs 4.3 and 6.3. Virgin raw materials are not required, and working zone temperature surveys must be conducted per SAE-AMS-H-6875. Non-standard tensile test specimen dimensions are specified in paragraph 4.5.2.
The additional requirements per T9074-BD-GIB-010/0300 Appendix B specify delivery of one 1.250-inch thick plate measuring 5 feet by 20 feet. The ultimate tensile strength shall be provided for information only per Table B-2. Weld repair is prohibited prior to heat treatment except as specified in paragraph B.3.6.1.1. Plate thickness tolerances must conform to Table B-6, and flatness tolerances must meet Table B-9 specifications. Descaling and coating are required per Appendix K. Explosion bulge testing per paragraph B.3.12 is required for First Article Testing only, with first article specimens located in areas shown on Figure B-1. The applicable fabrication document is NAVSEA T9074-AD-GIB-010/1688 Rev 1. No simulated stress relief sample or alternate ultrasonic acceptance standard is required.
