About this file
This document specifies acquisition requirements for HY-80 Type 1 high-yield strength steel plate for critical naval applications. The requirement calls for one plate measuring 0.500" thick by 8 feet by 20 feet, manufactured in accordance with NAVSEA technical specification T9074-BD-GIB-010/0300 Rev 2, Appendix B, dated December 12, 2012. The steel plate must meet structural specifications for high yield strength applications and comply with the base materials requirements outlined in the governing technical document for low alloy steel plate, forgings, castings, shapes, bars, and heads of HY-80/100/130 and HSLA-80/100.
Key requirements include: First Article Testing in accordance with paragraphs 4.3 and 6.3; virgin raw materials are not required; working zone temperature surveys per SAE-AMS-H-6875; ultimate tensile strength provided for information only; no simulated stress relief sample required; weld repair prohibited prior to heat treatment except as specified in paragraph B.3.6.1.1; flatness tolerances within Table B-9 limits; descaling and coating per Appendix K; and explosion bulge testing for first article testing only. First article specimens must be located in areas shown on Figure B-1 of the specification. The applicable fabrication document is NAVSEA T9074-AD-GIB-010/1688 Rev 1, and plate thickness tolerance must conform to Table B-6 of the technical specification.
