About this file

This document outlines acquisition requirements for HY-80 Type II high-yield strength steel plate for critical naval applications. The specified material is HY-80/100/130 low alloy steel, governed by the technical standard "Requirements for low alloy steel plate, forgings, castings, shapes, bars, and heads of HY-80/100/130 and HSLA-80/100, Rev. 2, DTD 18DEC2012." Virgin raw materials are not required for this procurement.

The specific steel plate requirement calls for one plate measuring 0.750 inches thick by 5 feet by 20 feet, with thickness tolerance and flatness tolerances as defined in Tables B-6 and B-9 of T9074-BD-GIB-010/0300 Rev 2. First article testing is mandatory in accordance with paragraphs 4.3 and 6.3, including explosion bulge testing per paragraph B.3.12 (first article testing only) with specimen locations specified on Figure B-1. Additional testing requirements include working zone temperature surveys conducted per SAE-AMS-H-6875 and non-standard tensile test specimen dimensions per paragraph 4.5.2. The material must undergo descaling and coating per Appendix K of T9074-BD-010-GIB/0300 Rev 2. Weld repair is prohibited prior to heat treatment unless specified in paragraph B.3.6.1.1, and no alternate ultrasonic acceptance standards are specified. The applicable fabrication document is NAVSEA T9074-AD-GIB-010/1688 Rev 1. Ultimate tensile strength shall be provided for information purposes only per Table B-2 of the technical standard, and a simulated stress relief sample is not required.
