Clear Lake State Park

Sewer, Water and Toilet/Shower Replacement and Upgrades Project Statement, September 2022

The DNR Parks and Recreation Division (PRD) is requesting assistance with the Clear Lake State Park Sewer, Water, and Toilet/Shower building(s) replacement and upgrades. It is anticipated all design work associated with this project will occur in a coordinated fashion at the same time.

PROJECT BACKGOUND:

Clear Lake State Park is located within the Mackinaw State Forest, 9 miles north of Atlanta along M-33 in northern Montmorency County. The area is well known for its plentiful wildlife including deer elk & turkey. Elk can be seen and heard throughout the area, especially in the spring and fall seasons.

The park features a 178-site campground, a tiny house, boat launch, swim area, and access to miles of hiking, biking, and ORV trails. A limited number of campsites are open year around for semi-modern (electric only) camping.

The sanitation station drain field was constructed in the late 60’s. The campground water and existing toilet/shower buildings were constructed in 1972. The campground sewer distribution systems were updated in 1993. The well house and the campground electrical were updated in 2014. The toilet/shower buildings lack accessible features and are showing their age, while the sewer and water systems have exceeded their intended design life and need to be addressed to provide updated facilities that meet current sanitation codes.
