About this file
This document appears to be a set of questions and answers related to a federal contract opportunity for a Cisco network backup solution. The key details are:
The federal contract opportunity is for a Cisco network backup solution for the 22nd Communications Squadron at McConnell AFB. The agency involved is the Department of the Air Force's Air Mobility Command. This is a new requirement to store network management data, with an expected 1,400GB of weekly data to be backed up. The government is seeking a turnkey backup solution with a 2-year data retention period, and the vendor will create the testing criteria which the government will approve. The government indicates this is not a classified environment, so a DD254 security clearance is not required. The vendor should propose a Dell-approved hypervisor for the backup solution.

1. What is the current environment/infrastructure and if you are looking to refresh primary storage?
- This is a new requirement for the new Cisco BITI network install, we need to storage the network management data.
2. Current Backup Solution (if any)?
3. Amount of data expected to be needed to backup? (we have outstanding compression and deduplication, but we can't properly size/quote without knowing the size of the environment)
- 1,400GB weekly
4. Types of data? (we can offer different COA's depending on the type of data) Retention Rate (how long do you keep the backups for, do you archive to tape or NAS)
- the data to be backed up will be from the Cisco repository, I cannot effectively answer this at this time. 2 years retention.
5. Can you describe your current data backup and recovery processes? Do you have a single solution for backup and recovery of all data, or do you use multiple solutions for different workloads (e.g.,: backup products, cloud-native backup, agents, backup servers, tapes, storage, backup appliances, media servers, backup clients, etc…)?
6. Does your current solution have redundancy in place, and are you currently storing additional backup copies or replicating data to remote sites? If so, where?
7. How much data do you currently manage, and do you anticipate significant data growth in the near future?
8. Have you encountered any issues related to storage capacity or data retention?
9. How many sites (on-prem or in the cloud) are you currently managing backup and recovery for?
-1 local
10. How much of your workloads are virtualized?
-N/A
11. Are you protecting databases today? If so, which ones and what are some challenges you’re facing?
- This is a new requirement for the new Cisco BITI network install.
12. Dell OneFS is traditionally an Unstructured Data Solution and not a true Backup Solution. Is the intent of the government to leverage Dell OneFS (PowerStore) for a data staging “landing zone” for the Cisco devices and then to conduct a backup from the landing zone? -----Indifferent, as to the method, we need to back up data.
13. How much data is a full backup? 1,400GB weekly
14. Does the government have a desired retention period for the backups? 2 Years
15. Industry defines a turnkey backup solution as a solution that is deployed as a Hyperconverged Solution (backup software, backup storage, and hypervisor). Is the intent of the government to focus solely on turnkey backup solutions? If so, is VMware the preferred hypervisor? Yes, to turnkey, and the hyper visor should be Dell recommended/approved/warranted.
16. Is the intent for the vendor to have the backup solution testing criteria already created or is the government creating that criteria? Vendor will create, government will approve.
17. To properly complete the install, cleared resources are usually required. Does the government intend to pass a DD254? Not in a classified environment.
