About this file

This document is a U.S. Coast Guard State Registration Data form (OMB No. 1625-0131) designed to collect comprehensive vessel registration information from states. The form requires states to report detailed data about recreational and commercial vessels, categorized by vessel type, length, and operational purpose, covering motorized and non-motorized watercraft ranging from less than 16 feet to over 65 feet in length.

The form mandates submission before March 1st annually, with sections capturing administrative details, vessel registration by length categories (for both recreational and commercial vessels), total registration tallies, and the scope of each state's vessel registration system. The purpose is to gather statistical data for the Coast Guard's marine safety, security, environmental protection, and law enforcement programs, with collected information used to calculate metrics such as fatality rates per registered vessels. The form carries a 45-minute estimated completion time and is required under 33 CFR 174.123.
