16_REMARKS: The orders crosswalk is a written review of a unit order or orders. The orders crosswalk is used to compare the OPLAN/OPORD from

the higher headquarters to the OPLAN/OPORD prepared by the exercise unit. The exercise unit based on input from MCTP determines the need for an orders crosswalk. When required, this reguirement is specified as a deliverable in the MOA for each specific exercise/Academics.

The orders crosswalk is provided to the exercise unit at the completion of the exercise/Academics to aid in the conduct of future training.

The MCTP OPSGP COG may also direct the orders crosswalk for internal use. When used within the OPSGP, the orders crosswalk serves to prepare the members of the team, both contractor and government, for the Academics/exercise.

The Orders Crosswalk shall be constructed utilizing the following editorial rules:

a. The style guide shall be AR 25-50, Preparing and Managing Correspondence.

b. Use direct, clear, complete sentences. Use acronyms only after first spelling them out followed by the acronym in parenthesis.

Use appropriate regulations for up to date terms and symbols.

c. Use neutral terminology that does not provide destructive criticism. Being observations with "The unit did…" rather than "The unit failed to…".

d. If the document is classified, provide the classification authority and downgrade instructions on the bottom right hand corner of the first page of the executive summary. Block the notation. Mark each paragraph and first level sub-paragraph with the appropriate classification. Mark unclassified cover letters and the Table of Contents with the overall classification and "Unclassified when separated from enclosures".

e. Designate U.S. Army Corps with Roman numerals (e.g., V Corps). Include the national distinguishing letters (e.g., V [US] Corps) when the possibility of confusion exists. Designate U.S. Army division and brigades with Arabic numerals with ordinal number suffixes (1st, 2d, 3d, …). When referring to a unit by itself, spell out and capitalize the name (I.e., 3rd Brigade, 2n Infantry Division) the first time it is used, putting the abbreviation to be used (if not standard) in parenthesis afterwards. When referring to a unit as part of a larger organization or when describing an action that repeatedly refers to various units, use the following conventions:

f. Do not capitalize general references to unit or people: "the division" not "the Div

16_REMARKS_Continued: g. Spell cities, town, regions, etc., using the name as it appears on the current 1:250,000 Joint Operations Graphic map without

any linguistic symbols or marks. If the name is not on the 1:250,000 map, use the spelling on the next lower size map (1:100,000, then 1:50,000). Follow the names of cities and towns with the correct 100,000 grid zone designator and four digit grid.

h. For purpose of standardization, write the terms "war game" and "war gaming" as two words; hyphenate "decision-making"; and refer to corps and division command posts as "command posts," not TOCs. Differentiate between the various command posts using the term "Main CP," "Tactical (or Tac) CP," and "Rear CP." Do not use DMain, DTAC, DRear, or other variants. Write staff titles without hyphens such as "G2", not "G-2."

i. Number the Table of Contents page with "i." Number the remaining pages consecutively with Arabic numerals beginning with "1" on the first page of the Executive Summary. Do not incorporate section numbers with the page numbers.

j. The cover shall be printed on heavy gray card stock. It shall include the MCTP logo and the exercise unit insignia.

The Orders Crosswalk shall be bound with the cover and gray card stock back cover using a binding machine and a multi-prong black plastic spine.
