PROJECT DESCRIPTION; JUSTIFICATION; BONA FIDE NEED; GOALS, AND GENERAL OR SAMPLE ACTIVITIES TO BE

UNDERTAKEN:

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, CDC/NCIRD has a need for a 2-pronged approach to monitoring vaccine distribution and administration. In the early phases of vaccine response (fall 2020) where the primary method of vaccine administration is via mass vaccination clinics with limited numbers of providers and limited vaccine supply, a centralized COVID-19 mobile reporting application will be used to ensure states and CDC have real-time access to the data needed for decision-making. In subsequent phases of the vaccine response where there is more vaccine available and a wider provider network administering it, the primary means of getting data for state and CDC decision-making will be via existing provider EHRs and IISs using the Immunization Gateway (IZ Gateway). The Immunization Gateway is a current AIMS project that allows for bi-directional data exchange between states and between multi-state providers and states. To enable data reporting and analytics during all phases of COVID-19 vaccine distribution and administration and also future reporting of other vaccines, CDC needs to invest in the development of an environment that will host data from multiple sources and enable data management and analytics. APHL, leveraging their existing AIMS environment, will develop a scalable cloud based event driven ETL data pipeline with a secure data lake to ingest data from multiple sources and enable analytics and downstream data use
