PROJECT DESCRIPTION; JUSTIFICATION; BONA FIDE NEED; GOALS, AND GENERAL OR SAMPLE ACTIVITIES TO BE
UNDERTAKEN: CDC, APHL, Google, Apple, Microsoft and a handful of states are getting ready to pilot the Apple | Google Exposure Notification (EN) platform. When individuals opt-in to a state-sponsored app, the platform sends a notification to individuals if they were in the vicinity of someone who tested positive for COVID. The platform leverages low-energy Bluetooth technology (on mobile devices) in combination with state/national privacy-protecting server infrastructure that enables COVID-19 lab test verification and the exchange of “keys” used for notification. Central server infrastructure is needed in order to both test the technology as well as support cross jurisdictional alerting. APHL, with assistance from Microsoft and Google, is standing up this server infrastructure.
Key Activities or Deliverables: (1) Azure cloud computing environment; (2) Key server; (3) Data Sharing Agreements w/ participating States
