About this file
This document is an Electrical Design Narrative for a federal contract opportunity. The design will comply with relevant NFPA, UFC, and Life Safety codes and standards. Key details include:
The electrical system design includes wire sizing calculations for three fence line lighting circuits and a 30A, 208VAC, 1-phase feeder and terminal/receptacle box for a guard house. Voltage drop calculations were performed, and the new panel load is 112 amps or 50% of panel capacity. Lighting controls will include photocell and lighting contactor for the fence line and flight line lighting as required by UFC.
The related federal contract opportunity is for a Security Lighting Upgrade project at Fort Wayne, IN. It is a small business set-aside with a NAICS code of 238210 - Electrical and Other Wiring Installation Contractors. The project magnitude is between $100,000 and $250,000, with a 30-calendar day period of performance. A pre-bid conference is scheduled, and a bid bond is required. Award will be based on price and price-related factors.

ELECTRICAL DESIGN NARRATIVE
The design of the electrical system will comply with IN ANG Ft. Wayne Base Design Standards, NFPA, UFCs and Life Safety, other items as required by local review authorities. Some specific code references are below:
REFERENCE DOCUMENTS:
NFPA 70 National Electrical Code (NEC), Latest Edition UFC 1-200-01 DoD Building Code (General Building Requirements) UFC 3-550-01 Exterior Electrical Power Distribution UFC 3-560-01 Electrical Safety, O&M UFGS specifications as applicable UL Underwriters' Laboratories Statement of Work as provided by Govt. and other guidelines as applicable by reference
POWER SYSTEM NARRATIVE:
Electrical design considerations include determining wire sizes for the three fence line lighting circuits and for a 30A, 208VAC, 1-phase feeder and terminal/receptable box for the guard house. Conductors were sized to provide less than 3.1% voltage drop (see TABLE 1).

Panel LA1 (located in building 730) load calculations were based on the provided as-built drawings and the addition of 7-832 watt fence line security poles. The new panel load is 112amps or 50% of panel capacity.
Lighting Controls:
1. Fence line – photocell with lighting contactor provided per UFC 3-530-01, section 4-3.1.3.
2. Flight line – contractor will verify existing lighting Controls and will add a photocell with lighting contactor per UFC 3-530-01, section 4-3.1.3 if required.
Contractor to verify prior to bidding and confirm existing photocell will work with new lights as shown on new work drawings.
