About this file
This document is the operating and maintenance instructions for a Burner Fire Twin Agent Model AF-DC-450-AFFF-150-1-HR fire suppression system, which is relevant to the City of Pembroke Pines' airport rescue firefighting truck retrofit project in Florida. The Twin Agent system consists of two independent discharge systems: a 150-gallon AFFF (aqueous film-forming foam) side and a 450-pound dry chemical side, each with dedicated nitrogen pressurization cylinders, manifolds with master valves, bleed valves, purge valves, and discharge capabilities. The system can discharge either agent independently or both simultaneously and is designed to be mounted on a skid configuration. Unit startup procedures require filling the AFFF tank with 145 gallons of freshwater and 5 gallons of 3% AFFF foam, charging nitrogen cylinders to 2200 PSI with regulated pressure at 200 PSI ±5 PSI, and conducting pressure and valve checks on both the AFFF and dry chemical manifolds before placing the system in service.
The document provides comprehensive operational procedures for discharge, including opening manifold master valves, opening nitrogen cylinders, pulling actuator handles, and aiming the discharge in sweeping motions at fire bases. Post-discharge purging procedures are specified to remove residual agents and prepare the system for recharging, which involves relieving all pressure, removing filler caps, refilling both tanks to proper levels, and replacing nitrogen cylinders with full ones. Maintenance and inspection schedules are detailed across multiple intervals: monthly inspections verify nitrogen pressure remains above 1750 PSI and check valve functionality; six-month inspections include pressure gauge verification, hose inspection, and agent level checks; yearly inspections require AFFF sample analysis and relief valve testing; and five-year inspections mandate pressure testing of discharge hoses at 250 PSI and internal inspection of the AFFF tank lining. Critical safety warnings emphasize never removing filler caps while cylinders are pressurized and never operating the system without regulators in place, as failure to follow these instructions could result in serious injury or death.

DISCHARGE INSTRUCTIONS
The Burner Twin Agent Unit is designed that either agent can be discharged alone or simultaneously.
It is the recommendation of Burner that both agents are activated to the hose reel so that either can be discharged on a fire.
To discharge the unit you must do the following.
1) The Master valve on the AFFF manifold and the Master valve on the Dry Chemical Manifold will need to be moved to the open position
2) Open the Nitrogen Cylinder for the dry chemical and AFFF
3) Pull AFFF or dry chemical actuator handle (Yellow handled pushrods on either side of the unit) out to stop.
4) Pull the hose off of the hose reel to the desired length.
5) Open the appropriate valve and aim the discharge at the base of the fire and extinguish in a side-to-side sweeping motion. Before opening the hose end discharge valve be sure to have a good footing and a firm grip on the valve as there will be a significant nozzle reaction.
6) When the fire appears to be extinguished, close the discharge valve and slowly back away. NEVER TURN YOUR BACK TO THE FIRE!!!
PURGE INSTRUCTIONS
After discharge of the unit you will need to purge the hoses to remove any AFFF or Dry Chemical as well as to prepare the unit for recharging.
To purge the unit after discharge you will need to do the following.
1) Close both actuator levers (the Yellow handled push rods on either side of the unit).
2) On the AFFF manifold close the Master valve and open the Purge valve.
