Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III USM Lens Manufacturer Part Number 3045C002 Aperture Range: f/2.8 to f/32 Lens Mount Type: EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
These Canon Lens have very unique operational/ functionality characteristics that are not available from any other Optical Lens Manufacturer. These characteristics are: 1) very wide Aperture Range, 2) EF Len Mount (Electro-Focus) and 3) Super Spectra & Air Sphere Coatings.
An Aperture is basically a hole in your camera’s lens that lets light pass through. Aperture size has a direct impact on the brightness of a photograph/ image, with larger apertures letting in more light into the camera compared to smaller ones. The f-stop, which is also known as the f-number, is the ratio of the lens focal length to the diameter of the entrance aperture. F-stop is the number that your camera shows you when you change the size of the lens aperture. The NPS requires a wide range of F-stop for different light environments from ultra bright light environments to very low light environments. These Canon Lens have very wide ranges of F-stops that are not available from any other Lens Manufacturers.
A lens mount is the standard or pattern that is used to connect the lens to the camera. Canon uses a standard lens mount called EF. For Canon SLR cameras, EF stands for “Electro-Focus” because it has a built-in motor in the lens for automatic focusing. The camera and the lens use electrical metal contacts to communicate as opposed to levers and plungers. The EF technology from Canon lenses sets them apart from any other Lens Manufacturers. The Vision Research Phantom High Speed Video Camera only supports EF-Mount Canon Lens for Remote Aperture Changes as well as Focus.
The EF-Mount Canon Lens enable the ability to adjust the Aperture and Focus settings remotely via a control software application on a remote computer.
The Canon Lens also have Super Spectra and Air Sphere Coatings on the Optical Components/ Elements. These coatings are used for minimizing ghosting and flare in strongly lighted working environments. For the intended usage, the coatings will help reduce excess light reflections from interfering with the video images.
6.1 Compatibility Statement:
6.2 Copyright / Proprietary Data / Licensing Agreement Statement:
These lenses will be used with the Vision Research Phantom V2512 high speed camera, which only supports EF-Mount Canon Lens for Remote Aperture Changes, as well as, Focus.
7. Brand Name (if applicable, detail why the procurement is restricted to a specific brand name manufacturer):
8. Additional information supporting a sole source acquisition:
See section 5.2 for the specific characteristics that restrict the requirement to only Canon lens.
