About this file

This document is a bid amendment from the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) regarding a request for quote (RFQ) for the rental of a 20-ton chiller unit and necessary components for the Sheridan Correctional Center. The amendment responds to vendor questions, clarifying that the rental will include a 20-ton chiller unit, not a 200-ton unit, and that the chiller will be a self-contained, fan-driven, forced air unit that will tie into the facility's ductwork. The rental period is for 4 months, with the 2022 season including a 12-ton unit and a 5-ton unit for the entryway, which was later replaced with an alternative solution.

The contract opportunity ID is 6631194fb092d9cf72035414, and the rental is for the state of Illinois. The amendment does not provide specific pricing details, set-asides, or incumbent information, but it does indicate that the chiller rental is necessary due to issues with the facility's existing system, which will not be functional. The amendment suggests that the chiller rental is a critical requirement for the Sheridan Correctional Center.

IDOC – Sheridan Correctional Center – DECRIPTION Bid #24-426DOC-SHERI-B-42847 Amendment #1 Response to Vendors’ Questions to Request for Quote (RFQ)

Below is he response to the questions that IDOC has received regarding the above RFQ:

1. Is there a chance to get an equipment list from last year’s rental? The request asks for a 20-ton chiller with ducting and cables. With ducting (size unknown), the 20-ton unit is most likely an AC unit, not a chiller.

ANSWER: Included is what we have for the 2023 and 2022 season. The 2022 season also had a 5-ton unit for the entryway, but an alternative solution was found so is not needed. The 12-ton unit was not producing ideal results, so it has been determined to rent a 20-ton unit instead of a 12-ton unit.

2023 rental of 12-ton unit

2022 rental of 12-ton unit and 5-ton unit

2. Want to confirm this is for a 20-ton chiller and not a 200-ton unit?

ANSWER: 20-ton

3. What chiller connection type is currently in place – for example camlock or flanged? What size piping is in place?

ANSWER: The chiller won’t be connecting to our existing system as we have an issue with our system and it won’t function. The chiller will need to be a self-sufficient sealed system that is just supplied with power, and it will be a fan driven forced air chiller unit that we tie into our duct work.
