The CONTRACTOR will be responsible for the care and cost of replacing these documents while in his possession. The electronic copy will be updated utilizing the original CADD Program at the end of the project using a separate file level for the as-built edits such that the edits will have a unique font and line weight to distinguish the edits from the original drawing. The number of drawings from the Contract Plans shall be maintained and clearly marked “As-Builts”, including those sheets where no changes were required when the work was constructed according to plan. The edited electronic copy and a signed and sealed hard copy of the electronically edited plans shall be provided to the ENGINEER two weeks prior to final inspection. The hard copy of the electronically edited plans shall be certified as to the location of all improvements constructed in this contract. TEMPORARY ASPHALT GENERAL CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS FOR PIPE TRENCHING
The equipment and construction methodology for placement of Hot Mix Asphalt shall be in general conformance with Section 330 of the FDOT Standard Specifications.
Minimum QC Requirements: Perform as a minimum, the following activities necessary to maintain process control and meet Specification requirements:
Pavement Density: Monitor the pavement temperature with an infrared temperature device so compaction is completed before the surface temperature of the pavement drops to the extent that effective compaction may not be achieved or the rollers begin to damage the pavement.
Mix Temperature: Determine the mix temperature at the roadway for the first five loads and one out of every five loads thereafter.
Pavement Texture: Monitor the pavement texture to minimize pavement segregation.
Limitations of Operations.
Weather Limitations: Do not transport asphalt mix from the plant to the roadway unless all weather conditions are suitable for the paving operations.
General: Place the mixture only when the surface upon which it is to be placed has been previously prepared, is intact, firm, dry, clean, and the tack or prime coat, with acceptable spread rate, is properly broken or cured.
Rain and Surface Conditions: Immediately cease transportation of asphalt mixtures from the plant when rain begins at the roadway. Do not place asphalt mixtures while rain is falling, or when there is water on the surface to be covered. Once the rain has stopped, standing water has been removed from the tacked surface to the satisfaction of the Engineer, and the temperature of the mixture caught in transit still meets the mix requirements, the Contractor may then place the mixture caught in transit.
Surface Preparation.
Cleaning: Before placing the mixture, clean the surface of the base or underlying pavement of all loose and deleterious material by the use of power brooms or blowers, supplemented by hand brooming where necessary.
Priming: Apply the prime coat only when the base meets the specified density requirements and when the moisture content in the top half of the base does not exceed the optimum moisture of the base material. At the time of priming, ensure that the base is firm, unyielding and in such condition that no undue distortion will occur.
Ensure the prime coat adheres to the base course.
Paving Equipment.
Asp:
General: Provide a self-propelled asphalt paver that can be steered, and is equipped with a receiving and distribution hopper and a mechanical screed. Use a mechanical screed capable of adjustment to regulate the depth of material spread and to produce the desired cross slope.
Screed Width: Asphalt for pipe trench shall encompass full lane width and extend only so far as to provide sufficient protection for pipe trenches. This work should be completed with hand tools whenever possible.
Hand Tools: Provide the necessary hand tools such as rakes, shovels, and other similar tools, and a suitable means for keeping them clean. Do not use diesel fuel or other petroleum-based solvents contained in an open container for cleaning purposes on the paver.
Placing Mixture
Alignment of Edges: Place all asphalt mixtures to obtain an accurate, uniform alignment of the pavement edge. As an exception, pavement edges adjacent to curb and gutter or other true edges do not require a stringline.
Control the unsupported pavement edge to ensure it will not deviate from the stringline more than plus or minus 1.5 inches.
The cost for this work will be considered as having been included in the lump sum bid price, completed and accepted.
Retainage will be withheld until all deficiencies are corrected.
DRIVEWAY BASE
The base shall be prepared in accordance with Section 286 of the FDOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, current Edition.
Price and payment will be full compensation for all work specified in this Section including excavating; compacting excavated areas; furnishing material; placing, compacting, and finishing of base; and incidental work. No separate payment will be made for any tack coat between base layers, prime coat, cover material for prime coat, bituminous material used in bituminous plant mix, and cement used in soil-cement. The cost of such work shall be included in the lump sum bid price, completed and accepted.

Final shoulder grades shall provide positive drainage away from the roadway unless indicated otherwise on the plans. Shoulder elevations adjacent to pavement shall be adjusted to accommodate sod thickness in areas where sod is to be installed. The quantities to be paid will be in the lump sum bid price, completed and accepted.

Headwalls, fences, mail boxes, statues, walkways, and other obstructions placed in the right-of-way will be removed by the CONTRACTOR from the work area, as required to keep the work progressing. In the event that the owner cannot be identified or is unable or unwilling to remove said obstructions themselves, the obstruction will be posted with a Notice, in writing, by the CONTRACTOR 24 hours prior to any removal that said object will be removed. The CONTRACTOR will not be responsible for any damage to said objects that occur while being moved by the contractor, after proper notification and the approval of the ENGINEER. Any objects that are removed from within the right-of-way, except mailboxes, will be hauled away and disposed of by the contractor in a proper landfill.
