A. The Town of Bristol requests proposals to make repairs to their 6-ft diameter influent screw pumps located within the Main Lift Pumping Station, which is located at the entrance to the Town’s Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF).

B. The Scope of Work generally Includes:

Supplemental Pumping

1. The screw pumps operate in a lead-lag configuration with one pump managing the facility flow. The work shall be conducted such that 14 MGD pumping capacity is always maintained. In addition, the Contractor shall provide back-up pump capacity for the largest bypass pump, to maintain in reserve if required in an emergency condition.

a. The range of flows at the Main Screw Pump Station varies widely from 1.5 MGD to 14 MGD. The Contractor is responsible for providing and sizing their equipment accordingly.

b. Supplemental pumping equipment including pumps, piping, valves and appurtenances shall be in place and in normal working condition prior to execution of repairs to the screw pumps.

2. The Town has an existing standby, diesel-fueled bypass pump permanently located upstream of the Main Lift Pumping Station. The existing pump has a firm pumping capacity of approx. 7 MGD (approximately 50% of the full pumping capacity of one Screw Pump) and is available for standby use by the Contractor for the purpose of flow bypass of the pump station, as necessary. Operation of this pump must be coordinated directly with Town personnel at all times.

3. Temporary pumping system shall be rented and upon completion of all bypass pumping operations returned to the supplier. The Contractor shall include all anticipated costs associated with the temporary pumping equipment, including rental, setup, remote monitoring fees, and removal within his Bid.

Contractor shall include power-generating facilities capable of providing all power necessary to operate supplemental pumping systems.

6. The bypass pumps shall have the ability to regulate pump discharge rate (Pump RPM) to match/maintain level in wet well. The vendor shall demonstrate the bypass pumping equipment is automated and is capable of functioning without the assistance of an operator. The system shall also have the ability to regulate maximum pump motor speed, so as not to overwhelm the downstream treatment system.

7. Noise prevention measures for all equipment shall be used to insure minimum noise impact on surrounding areas.

Measures may include but shall not be limited to insulation, electric pumping units, and hospital grade silencers or mufflers.

Noise shall be kept to a minimum particularly if any night, Saturday, Sunday or holiday work be deemed necessary by the Engineer for work under this Contract.
