About this file
This file is an appendix containing example transit research project templates for the FTA Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) FY26 solicitation. The document presents template slides illustrating how proposers should structure and present their research project proposals, featuring example transit research initiatives with 36-month award durations and placeholder funding amounts. The templates include designated sections for project manager information, cost and schedule details, project partners, and project descriptions aligned with FTA's Office of Research, Demonstration and Innovation objectives.
The example projects demonstrate the types of research initiatives FTA seeks to fund, focusing on partnerships with local and regional transit authorities to address safety and efficiency challenges in public transportation systems. Key research focus areas include: adapting technologies from adjacent industries to improve inspection methods and maintenance practices; developing multi-modal transit research to enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability; establishing learning laboratories for hands-on research and technology testing; disseminating findings through recommended practices and conference presentations; and conducting feasibility studies on advanced vehicle and infrastructure inspection methods. The appendix also provides accessibility guidance for proposal submissions, requiring proper alt text for images, detailed captions for graphs and tables, WCAG AA color contrast compliance, and minimum 16-point font sizes. This is a template document intended to guide proposers in formatting their submissions to the FTA BAA solicitation (693195-26-BAA-0001), which seeks applied research projects with funding typically ranging from $150,000 to $500,000 and preference for projects at Technology Readiness Levels 3 through 6.
