About this file
This Request for Quote (RFQ) No. 140P8425Q0092 is for removing and replacing trail handrails at Oregon Caves National Monument & Preserve. The existing handrail system consists of 1 3/4" oval oak wood posts ranging 34-38" in height, attached to concrete footings with pipe sleeve inserts. Prospective quoters are strongly urged to visit the site for field verification, as most existing footings may not be reusable with the new handrail system.
The attached photos document the current handrail conditions, showing wooden posts and rails along a paved trail in a forested setting. The images reveal weathered wooden handrails with reddish-brown coloration, positioned alongside a path near trees and rocky terrain. The documentation emphasizes the importance of on-site inspection, as the current installation method (using a forester bit hole drilled into the wooden post) suggests potential challenges in reusing existing infrastructure for the new handrail system.

RFQ No. 140P8425Q0092
Remove & Replace Trail Handrails, Oregon Caves NM&P
Current Handrail System and Pedestals (Existing Conditions)
For Reference Only
These are photos of the existing handrails. The actual grab rail is attached to the posts that are 1 3/4” around oval oak wood and vary in height of 34-38” top of oak rail. The anchors are concrete footings with a pipe sleeve insert and posts are attached using a forester bit hole drilled into the bottom of the wooden post. For this reason, most if not all, footing may not be able to be reused with the new handrail system. Prospective quoters are strongly urged and expected to visit the site for field verification of conditions before quoting this firm-fixed-priced acquisition.
