About this file
This is a Request for Information (RFI) Log documenting vendor questions and NPS responses regarding a firewood procurement for Golden Spike National Historical Park (GOSP) dated 25 FEB 2026.
The project involves purchasing firewood for a steam locomotive operation. Key specifications and delivery requirements clarified through vendor inquiries include: firewood dimensions of 2 to 3 feet in length with 6 to 24 inches in diameter, with splitting optional; delivery in an end-dump trailer with loose pieces acceptable; and vendor responsibility to provide tare and gross weight of the delivery vehicle when requesting payment. The RFI addresses three vendor questions regarding packaging instructions, whether pieces should be loose or crated, and clarification on whether logs must be split or can be delivered as straight logs cut to specified lengths. No response dates, award dates, pricing terms, or set-asides are specified in this document.

The National Park Service
Project: Purchase Firewood for Steam Locomotive
Park: Golden Spike National Historical Park (GOSP)
RFI Log – 25 FEB 2026
Question from Vendor: NPS Response:
1 Could you send me packaging instructions? How would you want this shipped? Containers or small packages?
The firewood may be delivered in an end-dump trailer.
2 Do you want them in loose pieces or in crates? How do they need to be packaged?
Loose pieces delivered in an end-dump trailer is acceptable. Provide tare and gross weight of the vehicle delivering the wood when requesting payment.
3 I was looking over your scope for the Firewood dimensions. It looks like a 2 to 3 foot in length and 6 inch through 24 inch in diameter. Does it need to be split or could it be 6 to 24 inch in diameter straight logs cut to the 2 to 3 feet in length?
It does not need to be split, but can be.
