Engineer 5 - Lead BA/BS Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Physics from an accredited* university and 12 years of combined engineering and technical experience, including 8 years of project experience; or a Master's Degree in the designated technical area of specialization from an accredited* university with 10 years of combined engineering and technical experience, including 6 years of project experience. Areas of specialization may include electromagnetics, electro-optics, optical sciences, electronic circuits, modeling and simulation, infrared scene projection, structural analysis, radar systems, high voltage systems, mechanical systems, data acquisition, stockpile testing, HWIL, HPC, or IR scene generation; performing engineering, analysis, and related functions in research, development, test and evaluation in support of military equipment and systems. Additional specialization requirements:

a. Aerospace - Experience must include performing engineering duties in designing, constructing, and testing aircraft, missiles, and spacecraft; and conducting basic and applied research to evaluate adaptability of materials and equipment to aircraft design and manufacture; and performing engineering, analysis, and related functions in research, development, test and evaluation in support of military equipment and systems may be substituted for MA/MS education requirements.

b. Engineering Technician IIHS/GED3 years of applicable experience supporting engineering or testing of hardware in the appropriate area of specialization; or 2 years of applicable college/vocational/military/technical school and 1 year of applicable experience in the assigned specialty area; and the following additional requirements:

a. Nondestructive Test (NDT) Technician – Must be certified (or capable of being certified within two years) to Level I of the radiographic requirements of American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) TC-1A standard or equivalent.

b. Environmental Systems Technician – Must possess EPA approved certification in proper refrigerant usage to include freon recovery units.

c. Liquid Propellant Handling Technician – Must possess Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training certification to handle liquid rocket engine propellants through the use of Level A protective suits and respiratory protection.

d. Aviation Propulsion Technician – Must have successful completion of vocational/military/technical school training in military aviation maintenance and experience with a focus on propulsion systems and possess a valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification.

e. Telemetry Technician – Must have experience supporting engineering/testing of systems in an aviation unit to include 1 year of experience in radio frequency transmissions/telemetry/avionics.

f. Designer – Must have experience in electrical/mechanical engineering design; or an Associate's Degree in drafting or computer aided design (CAD) or equivalent military training.

g. Mechanical – Must have successful completion of vocational/military/technical school training in practical or industrial arts and 1 year of experience in mechanical fabrication and structural/fixture setup supporting engineering or testing of military hardware.

h. Instrumentation – Must have sixteen (16) weeks of civilian or military training in electronics or basic instrumentation techniques and at least 1 of the 3 years of experience must be in electronics/instrumentation supporting engineering or testing of military hardware.

Engineering Technician III HS/GED 5 years of applicable experience supporting engineering or testing of hardware in the appropriate area of specialization; or 2 years of applicable college/vocational/military/technical school and 3 years of applicable experience in the assigned specialty area; and the following additional requirements:

a. Nondestructive Test (NDT) Technician – Must be certified (or capable of being certified within two years) to Level II of the radiographic requirements of ASNT (TC1A) or equivalent.

Mechanical – At least 4 year of the 5 years experience must include successful completion of 1 year of vocational/military/technical school training in practical or industrial arts and a minimum of 2 years of mechanical fabrication and structural/fixture setup supporting engineering or testing of military hardware.

h. Instrumentation – Experience must include successful completion of sixteen (16) weeks of civilian or military training in electronics or basic instrumentation techniques and a minimum of 2 years of experience in electronics/instrumentation supporting engineering or testing of military hardware.

Engineering Technician IV HS/GED 7 years of applicable experience supporting engineering, design, or testing of hardware in the appropriate area of specialization; or 3 years of applicable college/vocational/military/technical school and 4 years of applicable experience in the assigned specialty area; and the following additional requirements:

a. Nondestructive Test (NDT) Technician – Must be certified (or capable of being certified within one year) to Level II or higher of the radiographic requirements of ASNT (TC1A) or equivalent.

b. Environmental Systems Mechanic – Must possess EPA approved certification in proper refrigerant usage to include freon recovery units.

c. Liquid Propellant Handling Technician – Must possess Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training certification to handle liquid rocket engine propellants through the use of Level A protective suits and respiratory protection.

d. Mechanical – At least 6 years of the 7 years of experience must include successful completion of vocational/military/technical school training in practical or industrial arts and a minimum of 4 years of experience in mechanical fabrication and structural/fixture setup supporting engineering or testing of military hardware.

h. Instrumentation – Experience must include successful completion of sixteen (16) weeks of civilian or military training in electronics or basic instrumentation techniques and a minimum of 4 years of experience in electronics/instrumentation supporting engineering or testing of military hardware.

Engineering Technician V HS/GED 9 years of applicable experience supporting engineering, design or testing of hardware in the appropriate area of specialization; or 4 years of applicable college/vocational/military/technical school and 5 years of applicable experience in the assigned specialty area; and the following additional requirements:

a. Nondestructive Test (NDT) Technician – Must be certified (or capable of being certified within one year) to Level II or higher of the radiographic requirements of ASNT (TC1A) or equivalent.

b. Environmental Systems Technician – Must possess EPA approved certification in proper refrigerant usage to include freon recovery units.

Mechanical – At least 8 years of the 9 years of experience must include successful completion of vocational/military/technical school training in practical or industrial arts and a minimum of 6 years of mechanical fabrication and structural/fixture setup supporting engineering or testing of military hardware.

h. Instrumentation – Experience must include successful completion of sixteen (16) weeks of civilian or military training in electronics or basic instrumentation techniques and a minimum of 6 years of experience in electronics/instrumentation supporting engineering or testing of military hardware.

Engineering Technician VI - Lead HS/GED 11 years of applicable experience supporting engineering or testing of hardware in the appropriate area of specialization; or 4 years of applicable vocational/military/technical school and 7 years of applicable experience in the assigned specialty area; and the following additional requirements:

Additional specialization requirements:

a. Nondestructive Test (NDT) Technician – Must be certified (or capable of being certified within one year) to Level II or higher of the radiographic requirements of ASNT (TC1A) or equivalent. 2 years of experience as team leader for other technicians. Alternatively, up to 4 years post-secondary education or military service may be substituted for up to 4 years of experience.

b. Environmental Systems Technician – Must possess EPA approved certification in proper refrigerant usage to include freon recovery units.

c. Liquid Propellant Handling Technician – Must possess Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training certification to handle liquid rocket engine propellants through the use of Level A protective suits and respiratory protection.

d. Aviation Propulsion Technician – At least 10 years of the 11 years of experience must include successful completion of vocational/military/technical school training in military aviation maintenance and experience with a focus on propulsion systems and possess a valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification.
