DOC: 1103389
HULL#:
TYPE: REPLICA OF A 1797 SALEM EAST INDIAMAN
ADDENDUM TO VISIT REPORT # 5
Dear Mr. DePrey:
There have been some discussions between Jeremy Brumagin, Boothbay and the undersigned with regard to repairs to the hull of the Friendship. Much of this was detailed in the report from this office dated December 15, 2017. Given the construction of the vessel and where the repairs are we have made changes in the planned repairs.
The following apply to hull and stem repairs on Friendship stem area, currently in process or upcoming as of 12/20/17:
1. On hull planking inner and outer layers:
Scarphs will be 12:1 except where interference prevents this, in which case they can be between 6:1 and 12 and as large as feasible within this range.
On the same layer up to two vertically adjacent planks may be grouped together at each scarph location.
Scarphs may overlap not more than ½ a scarph length, and must be located in at least 3 horizontal locations.

2. The large forefoot deadwood section that was removed intact may be replaced as previously planned (being secured to the new stem laminate with epoxy, bots or potted rods, and fiberglass) with the following change. The remaining lower triangular shaped piece that this will rest on may be re-laminated, secured to the new stem laminate with epoxy and 2 potted rods, and secured to the lower end of the forefoot section with epoxy and a blind coke set into the end grain of each piece.
3. Existing stem, billet-head and keel bolts (mostly threaded rods) that can’t be removed and replaced with bolts, may be cut flush to the new lamination surface and capped with a nut and washer recessed into the existing laminate structure.
Where this is required either a full length bolt, potted rod or bolt w/pocket nut and washer must be added.
If there are any questions, please contact us. This report is submitted without prejudice and for the exclusive use of the National Park Service and/or its agents. It cannot be passed on to any others without the express permission of Capt. G. W. Full &
Associates, Inc.
This is an addendum to the December 15, 2017 report. This report is submitted in good faith and constitutes a description of the condition as than found. The surveyor assumes no responsibility for any defects and is to be held harmless for conditions subsequently arising. This report does not warrant expressly or implied, or guarantee the condition of the above yacht. This inspection was only an inspection of the outlined damage.
Respectfully Submitted, CAPT. G. W. FULL & ASSOCIATES, INC.
