About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details the replacement of a septic tank at Lost Horse Ranger Station in Joshua Tree National Park. The project requires removing the existing septic tank, which was installed in 1967 and has been compromised by vegetation roots, and installing a new 1,500-gallon capacity tank that meets modern standards. Key requirements include obtaining Riverside County permitting, conducting potential percolation testing, connecting the new tank to existing drain lines, removing an open concrete drainage box, and ensuring the work area is left clean and neat.
The contractor must complete the project within 30 days of receiving the notice to proceed, with an archaeological monitor required on-site during excavation (to be provided by the park). Submittals include liability insurance evidence, a project superintendent designation, construction schedule, safety plans, and a list of subcontractors. The work is to be performed between 06:00-18:00 Monday through Friday, with strict guidelines for park access, vehicle use, smoking, and maintaining a professional appearance. Project completion is contingent upon permit inspector verification of code compliance and proper installation of the new septic system.

1.2 Background
The existing septic system at Lost Horse Ranger station was believed to be installed in 1967. This project will remove the existing septic tank and replace it with a new tank built to modern standards. The requirement is for a tank that is 1,500 gallons in size due to the possibility of ten people staying at the ranger station for various durations of time.
The septic tank will be installed according to code regarding correct depth. The existing drains from the housing unit and ranger station will connect modern fittings and then buried. Currently the drainage from the two buildings converge in an open concrete box which allows direct viewing of waste coming from the house. The concrete box will be removed, and all lines will be buried after installation.
1.2 Objective
The objective of this contract is to replace the existing septic tank with a modern septic tank that conforms to code. The requested tank size is 1,500 gallons but could be changed if code and permitting requirements do not allow for installation of a tank of that size.
Percolation testing may be required, and the contractor shall setup and handle all testing requirements.
