About this file
This document contains the required and preferred specifications for a System for Identification and Phenotypic Characterization of Bacterial Species.
The required specifications establish mandatory capabilities for the system. The system must employ microtiter plates for analyses and identify at least 1,000 different species of aerobic gram-negative and gram-positive organisms, along with multiple anaerobic species and environmental, marine, veterinary, and clinical microorganisms. The system must incubate plates at defined temperatures ranging from 22°C to 45°C over a time course and conduct plate readings at multiple time points. It must handle a minimum of 8 plates simultaneously, analyze and compare multiple cellular phenotypes, and analyze 2 different wavelengths. The system must also monitor and compare host cellular respiration conditions and microbial growth conditions simultaneously during infection. Data analysis software must be included with the system.
The preferred specifications include three additional capabilities: characterization of yeast, fungi, and mammalian cells in addition to bacterial species; analysis of data on a microbial community level; and the ability to export data for analysis. These preferred features extend the system's functionality beyond the core bacterial identification requirements while maintaining compatibility with the required specification framework.
