The microscope, hereafter referred to as “Instrument”, shall be designed to provide an optimum combination of capabilities for high-resolution imaging, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS), and nanoscale electron diffraction. High efficiency detectors for both transmitted electrons and secondary electrons are required. This new system will enable the determination of physical and chemical properties of various materials at high spatial and high energy resolution which is of importance to discoveries in materials science. This document outlines the Contractor’s responsibilities and obligations necessary for completing the requirements as set forth herein.

1.1 Background

The CFN is a user-oriented research center whose mission is to be an open facility for the nanoscience research community and advance the science of nanomaterials that address the nations’ energy challenge.

Research at CFN focuses on the development of application of advanced techniques to understand structure-processing-property relationships in functional nanomaterials. New and unique capabilities would enrich for both internal research and our user program.
