About this file
This is a questions and answers document from vendors regarding IDOT District 2's First Aid Kit & Wall Mounted Eye Wash Station service contract. The document clarifies that each of the 19 maintenance facilities will receive one self-contained eye wash station and one ANSI Class B first aid kit. The contract requires initial installation of new equipment followed by 90-day resupply and maintenance services. The document specifies that while OSHA requires weekly visual inspections (to be performed by IDOT employees), the contractor is responsible for replacing eye wash solution every 90 days due to solution expiration limitations.
The document emphasizes that no subcontracting is allowed, and all services must be performed directly by the awarded vendor. While temporary eyewash bottles are permitted as an interim solution when stations are damaged, this arrangement is only acceptable for brief periods during repairs. The Q&A clarifies several technical specifications, including that the eye wash stations are self-contained units requiring no plumbing or water heater connections, simplifying the installation and maintenance requirements.

B-46166 Vendor Asked Questions:
-Are the eyewash stations self contained or are they being plumbed into the existing domestic water supply?
The eye wash stations are self-contained. They do not required any plumbing.
- Do we need water heaters or is hot water existing for piped in eyewash stations?
N/A no plumbed stations
- What size of first aid station is required and/or how many individuals does it need to be sized for?
ANSI Class B first aid kit
-Could you clarify the use of a subcontractor? Is there a chance that some of the onsite locations could be covered by a partner?
Contract states no subcontracting is allowed.
-What is the quantity of eye wash stations and first aid cabinets/kits at each site?
1 of each per site
-Will the sites need new eye wash stations and first aid cabinets/kits or will this be for refill only for the first visit? Are they looking to start with fresh installs?
This is an initial new kit and eye wash station and then90-day resupply.
-They stated OSHA requires a weekly inspection of eye wash station but the bid states every 90 days.
The weekly checks are visual checks conducted by our employees at the maintenance yards. The 90 days in the contract is for them to replace the solution which is only good for 90 days.
-They stated that the bid states that if the eye wash station is broke or damaged that bottles of eye wash are to remain until it is replaced/repaired, they stated this does not meet the OSHA requirement of 15 minutes of continuous wash.
If the eyewash station is broken then having the eyewash bottles in place for a day or 2 while waiting for a replacement and/or repair is better than nothing for an eye wash.
-Would you happen to have any pictures of the current first aid kits and eye wash stations?
N/A
