CAD GIS Guidance

All products associated with projects that provide map representation of the location of installation features (historical, existing, or planned) including installation maps, site plans, buildings, or other related overhead (plan) views, elevations, or details of an installation (partial or entire) must adhere to the following USAFA CAD and GIS standards. Areas within a building/facility shall be delivered in Autodesk AutoCAD. Areas outside a building/facility shall be delivered in Autodesk AutoCAD and GIS ESRI format. Drawings and other CAD/GIS information shall comply with the latest USAFA standards as described below.

CAD - All digital drawings submitted to USAFA shall be in AutoCAD 2018 or latest version. These files must comply with the latest version of the USAFA CAD standards. The digital record drawing (as-built) format shall also comply with the latest USAFA CAD standards regardless of the drawing’s original format. The USAFA CAD standards follow the latest release of the A/E/C Standards with minor changes such as layer names and line types. A CD-ROM with these standards will be provided after contract award.

GIS – Features outside a facility, to include the outline of the facility, shall be submitted in ESRI’s ArcGIS format. GIS digital files will strictly comply with the latest Air Force Adaptation of the Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE). Additional business tables may be used, utilizing a Feature IDPK field for joins to the feature class. Metadata must conform to the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) standards. All Geospatial Information System (GIS) site plan design projects will be developed using Colorado (Central) State Plane projection, North American 1983 Datum coordinate system and will use US survey feet measurements. The A-E will be required to provide detail products that are directly accessible by the target GIS without translation, preprocessing, or post-processing of the electronic digital data files. The A-E submitted data sets shall be in ESRI’s ArcGIS 10.6 or higher. Contractor or A/E firm will coordinate with the CAD/GIS section to ensure that the latest GIS SDSFIE standards are applied.

GIS Features (items outside of building structures) requested by the A-E will be provided by the USAFA CAD/GIS department in a file geodatabase format only. Imagery is available in multiple formats. If the A-E prefers to produce these design features in AutoCAD format, it is the A-E’s responsibility to convert all deliverables into geodatabase format specific to the use and application of ESRI’s ArcGIS, including components and extensions. GIS data must not be used as a source of reference to measure base map features. The A-E shall utilize survey grade methods and technology to determine precise locations of existing and proposed features.
