About this file
This document outlines the sampling stratification categories for the Crash Investigation Sampling System Primary Sampling Units operations contract. The contract involves sampling of motor vehicle crashes in ten categories based on factors such as vehicle model year, injury level of occupants, and whether vehicles were towed. Category 1 involves fatal crashes, while categories 2 through 10 stratify by decreasing levels of injury and older vehicle model years. Category O includes non-traffic crashes and those not meeting other categories. The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation number 693JJ920R000030 for CISS PSU operations from the Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The RFP seeks continued sampling of motor vehicle crashes through the CISS program to support analysis of highway safety issues.
