About this file
This document is a Product Specification for Insulating and Heating Blankets for the Material Plasma Exposure Experiment (MPEX) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The specification details technical requirements for blankets designed to insulate and heat vacuum vessels in the experimental setup, with two primary types of blankets: insulating blankets that provide thermal isolation, and heating blankets that both insulate and generate heat for the underlying vessels.
The specification outlines comprehensive requirements including material composition, performance standards, and design specifications. Key technical requirements include: ability to heat vessels from 20°C to 150°C within 24 hours, withstand 100 heat up and cooldown cycles, maintain an outer insulation temperature below 120°F, and operate with cable leads up to 30m long. The blankets must be constructed using approved materials compliant with magnetic permeability requirements, non-asbestos insulation, and Class 10 environment standards. Each blanket must be individually controllable, UL-listed, and include a data plate with manufacturer, model, serial number, and manufacture date. Electrical components must meet specific fire safety, smoke density, and toxicity standards, and all components must be properly grounded.
